((Well…that's that. I just re-found my account on this. I'm surprised it wasn't removed. Anyway…I have so many ideas for this, but this is pretty much the pilot chapter. I'll keep going if I get any good feedback. Enjoy.))

Prologue…

My head is splitting. The pain behind my eyes is almost unbearable. It's dark below deck and Juib shakes me a bit. "Stand up. There you go. You were dreaming. What's your name?" his hoarse voice meets my ears in a mockery of a comforting croon.
"Vel…Veldrin." I groan. The pain is receding now, and my vision is clear once more.
"Well…Not even last night's storm could wake you. I heard them say we've reached Morrowind. I'm sure they'll let us go." His ears twitched as we heard footsteps from down the hall. "Quiet…here comes the guard." Then everything fades away. My eyes flutter open to realize that I'm lying in my bed with a Bosmer and Dumner woman on either side of me. I sit up and rub my eyes. It was a dream…more so a flashback actually, of my first moments on Morrowind not quite two months ago. Just two months and I'm a wizard of the guild. Respected and revered by my peers. I'm stopped in the street by complete strangers who know my name, acting as if they were lifelong friends. I'm sought for my skill in magic, enchantment and alchemy. And it wasn't more than two days ago the Tilvani took me into their house. The Emperor can take his little chore for me and shove off. I'm not the average outlander I was two months ago. I am Veldrin, and like the guard at the census office said, I fit right in.
The covers shift a bit as the Dumner woman rouses from her sleep. Her hand touches my chest and she nips the tip of my long, pointed ear. "Hmm…is something the matter, Veldrin?" she croons.

"Nothing, Ariry. I'm fine. It was just a dream." I assure her.

"Just a dream?" asks the Bosmer. "I don't see why you'd be eager to wake from a dream after last night." She follows Ariry's lead and runs her fingers through my long white hair.

Just then, there is a knock at my door. I should never have told anyone that I live in this abandoned flat just outside of Vivec. "Excuse me, ladies." I say and stand, pulling on my extravagant blue robe and opening the door. Before me stands a familiar Kajit woman, Addhiranirr. Someone I'd rather not see. If I see her, then she has word from Caius. And word from Caius means work. My eyes narrow as I lean against the doorway and sigh. "What is it now, Addhi?"

She huffs. "I told you I don't like that name. It's little kitten's name. No good for sneaky sneak like Addhiranirr."

"I don't care. You're wasting my time." I grumbled. "I have business to attend to."

She sniffed me a bit and rolled her eyes. "Business…I'm sure." She huffed. "Spymaster wishes to see you and he expects you there by 'No Shadow Time'"

"Why can't you just say noon?" I grumbled and leaned out the doorway to look at the sky. "What the hell!" I cried. "It's practically eleven! The only way is if I leave now and head to the Mages guild and…curse you Caius!" I slammed the door in her face and returned to my chambers. "I'm sorry ladies, I must leave. I have a few errands to run. Get dressed and hurry out of here. I'll see if I can make it back sometime this week."
"Aww…No time for just one more display of skill?" Ariry complained playfully.

"Unfortunately not. Later, though." I smiled and saw them out. I locked my flat behind me and headed for the Foreign Quarter. Balmora only a teleport away.
