The first time Steiner heard an odd noise near the royal chamber, he paid it no mind. Probably a rat causing a bit of a ruckus; nothing to worry about.
The second time he actually pressed his ear against the door, yet couldn't for the life of him identify the source of such a noise. And for some reason beyond his comprehension, he couldn't really bring himself to enter the room either.
The third time he dragged Beatrix with him for a second opinion. The clever woman simply smiled after only a moment and proceeded to drag him away.
The fourth time it took the General of the young queen about thirty minutes to convince the upset Knight that; no, no one was killing the princess; and yes, she'd much rather they don't stay all night to make sure.
The fifth time Beatrix didn't even have to open her mouth. Steiner was gone and looking ready to faint by the first shout of 'Yes!'.
It took him a while, yet he eventually learned his lesson. As while the Captain of the Knights of Pluto was stubborn as no other, he decided he'd rather leave the queen of Alexandria to her privacy. Especially if it spared him having to face a certain monkey-tailed boy leaving the room the morning after again, grinning like an idiot as he had been and waving madly at the ill-looking knight.
Now if he could only find a way to wipe the annoying, self-pleased smirk from his face without upsetting the ruler of Alexandria, perhaps he'd be able to sleep at night again.
He sometimes hated being the sworn guardian of a teenage queen.
