Gradual Descent
They weren't doing any good-- the so-called 'distractions'. She had to do something before she collapsed. The guilt was eating at her; slowly but surely; ripping at her from the inside.
She felt empty, disoriented, and confused, and she hated it.
Damn him for ruining her life without even knowing it.
She slammed her hand down on the table, ignoring the odd looks she got from people around her, and strode angrily over to his office. Flinging the door open, walking in, and shutting it loudly behind her, she exhaled heavily and stood, hands on her hips, staring at the top of his head.
It came up.
"What's wrong, Jordan?"
Damn him.
"Do you like me or not?"
It was blunt, it was rude, it was not her, but it would get her an answer and she would live with it. Like hell she would.
He looked startled, surprised by the strange question coming from her. "What?"
She glared at him. "Do you like me or not?" she repeated crossly. "It's not a hard question, and I need to know. Now."
He pulled off his glasses and stood up, coming around to stand in front of his desk; in front of her. "What's going on?" He asked quietly, determined not to let her draw unwanted attention from people casually passing by. He yanked the blinds shut on the windows and put his hands on his shoulders, turning her to face him. "Talk to me."
She groaned in frustration, running her fingers through her long, dark hair. "Nothing! I just want you to answer the damn question!"
He pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. "Jordan… how do you expect me to reply to that?"
"With the truth, you-" She groaned again and clenched her jaw. "Please, just- answer, Garrett. That's all I need to know." She looked at him simply, eyes wide. Not pathetically so, but enough to make him want to do what she asked of him.
He was silent for a minute, weighing his options furiously in his head. Yes…no…maybe…
The irrational side won out, and he pulled her gently to him, pressing his lips to hers in a kiss that left them both drawing in air desperately for a handful of seconds before he kissed her again, softly and passionately.
She swallowed. "Uh…wow." Her mind spun crazily, and she closed her eyes to rid herself of the dizziness. "Garrett…umm… I guess that answers my question…?"
He nodded. "I guess so."
And their lips collided again.
