Sneak Attack

by Dena

"Do not move."

At this, Ernie, of course, raised his head from the book he was immersed in and looked up at Luna. "What? Why?"

She was standing over him with that look in her eyes -- one that was very familiar to Ernie, and yet still made him just a bit nervous. "Because they will pounce if they see you move!" she said in a loud whisper.

Ernie raised an eyebrow, his expression one of confused amusement, knowing by now that the best course of action was to just go along with it. He checked his peripheral vision for whatever-it-was that would pounce. "And what exactly are they?" he asked. "I wouldn't want to look and have it be the last thing I ever do--"

"Shh. They do not attack girls," she said quietly, matter-of-factly, tiptoeing around his sprawled-out position in front of the fireplace. Ernie started to turn his head to see where she was going, but she caught him before he moved too far, poking the side of his head with her rainbow toe-socked foot. "Here, girl," she said, and if Ernie could see her, he'd see her crouched with a hand out to something invisible that was hiding in the corner. Ernie held his breath, waiting for her to tell him what exactly she was talking about--

"Oofa!" Ernie exclaimed as he was, indeed, pounced by something -- he rolled over, and instead of some bizarre creature, there was an exceedingly blonde, grinning and giggling creature leaning above him. He propped himself up on one elbow and reached up to play with one of her candycane earrings. "You lied," he said, smirking.

"I did?"

"Mmhm." He brushed a piece of long blonde hair behind her ear. "You said they'd only pounce if I moved, and I was being quite still."

Not that he was complaining...
