Ausgestaltung
Disclaimer: I don't own Weiß, nor the source of the inspiration for this fic.
Author's Note: Just some drabble I thought up inspired by a certain quote. Brownie points if you can identify the quote.
Also… spoilers (minor) for the first part of the series. This really doesn't have a specific place where to go (probably in the 2nd half of the series, though), except for definitely before the end of the series (I haven't seen the OAV or Glühen yet… my beta-reader is sending them to me, though!).
I believe everyone has at least one skill that they excel in over all others. It's… something that defines who they are. What is it that defines you?
Freimütigkeit
Skill? What skill do I have? That I'm better than everyone else at?
Well, there's soccer, of course. A few years ago, I would've said it in a second. I mean, I was on top of the league. But now? Now I just coach kids on the side. I'm sure there's plenty of other people better than me.
But that's just my side job. My main job… No. Everyone else's arrangements are much better than mine. And… I'm clumsy, too. Aya's always glaring at me for it. The others don't say anything, but I'm sure they feel the same way. I could say that being clumsy is my skill, but that's not something to be proud of.
And then there's my… other job. Not something to be proud of either, really. And the others are… cleaner about it. The others physically separate themselves from what we do. Me? I'm always up-close and personal. I mean… I want to be able to see who I'm after, be able to see their eyes. Maybe to find redemption in myself…
Of course, nothing really lets us mentally separate ourselves from what we do. We each have our own ways of dealing with what we do, but it's not always enough. We each have our own reasons for being here, but we still have to deal with it. Regardless of our reasons, we're still as evil as the beasts we fight. A necessary evil, but an evil nonetheless.
I've accepted this. I don't know if the others have. Aya… probably. Then again, he doesn't talk much, and when he does, it's to his comatose sister, not us. I'd listen, though, if he ever wanted to talk. Youji… Youji I'll never understand. He's always off with women, but he seems like he doesn't want to be with them. No, I don't mean that he wants to be with men, it just seems as if he's distracting himself. Probably has to do with his old partner. I have a feeling they were a little closer than just partners. Then again, he's not one to talk about himself, either.
And then there's Omi. Omi doesn't talk much about himself, either. Not that it's completely his fault. He's blocked out most of his memories from when he was younger. Apparently it has to do with him being kidnapped as a child. And the only reason we know about that is because the memories forcibly came to the front during that case with that kid, Shota. Omi's great at listening, but he doesn't open up about himself.
I don't know why the others don't open up about themselves. Are they afraid that we'll learn something about them that they don't want others to know? I have no problems opening up about myself. Or listening to when others are willing to open up.
Hmm… Aya and Youji aren't that great of listeners, and, even though Omi is, he won't open up back. Maybe that's my skill. Being open, both to confide in others, and to let others confide in me. I definitely do it better than the others. Yeah. That works for me.
My skill is being open.
You like? I'm planning on doing at least Aya, Youji, and Omi (not in that order, though). And my beta-reader'll probably convince me to do Schwartz, since she's a fan of theirs.
Of course, the only way I know if I should continue is if you hit that nice little button that says "review". If you don't know where it is, it's right on the left-hand side of the screen, under this text.
