It's in those twilight minutes just before dawn that he thinks Eiji is at his most beautiful. When sleep still clings to his slumbering form and dreams still play behind closed eyelids. When he was silent, save for that adorable little "mew" sound that escaped him every other breath. When his hair wasn't flipped and instead laid in curled tendrils around his face. When the day's worries were gone and his features were smooth which allowed for that carefree innocence to shine as brilliantly as ever. This was when he was at his most beautiful.

Inui smiled slightly as he watched Eiji's sleeping form. He brought a hand up and brushed back a few strands of red hair before he leaned in and placed a light kiss to Eiji's forehead. Eiji stirred then and gazed up at Inui with still sleeping blue eyes. "Nya, Inui...what time is it?" Eiji barely managed to get the question out around the gaping yawn that wracked his body.

"Just before dawn," Inui murmured as he continued to stroke Eiji's hair. "Go back to sleep."

Eiji was already halfway there before Inui had even finished speaking. He snuggled in close to the strong warmth beside him and buried his face against Inui's chest. "You wake up too early, nya..."

It was now, in that space between dreams and the waking world, that Inui feels their love is at its most beautiful.
