Wishful Thinking

Summary: Sasuke only wishes for one thing this Christmas. Slight ItaSasu. One-shot.

Disclaimer: Naruto is not mine.

A/N: It's been a while since I've written an ItaSasu fic.

All throughout the midmorning December stillness and fog encompassing the ninja village of Konoha, at the South Gate, small footsteps vibrated against the cold ground. Eight years old Uchiha Sasuke, wrapped uncomfortably in several layers of warm clothing he managed to don forced his small legs to run faster.

"Hurry, hurry up Sasuke." He encouraged himself softly as he turned to a corner which leads to a shortcut towards their house. Small puffs of white breathe appears periodically as he ran. Unconsciously, he looked up towards the dark sky of five ten in the morning only to find it not dark at all already. Small signs of light was starting to outline some of the clouds, making the numerous stars grazing the sky disappear one by one.

For nine mornings, Sasuke forced himself to wake up by four in the morning and go bravely across Konoha's walls to a nearby town with a small church. He attended Misa de Gallo for nine days—an idea he got from a classmate which he overhead that if one completes the said morning masses, the person will get to have his wish come true.

Now, as Sasuke reached the last two blocks towards their house, Sasuke doubted if his wish would really do come true. It was simple enough to be true yet trivial enough not be done. It would be hard for him to accept that all these mornings he sacrificially took would get nowhere after all. It already caused him enough trouble to be reported to his mother for sleeping during classes. That thought made him slacken his pace to walking.

So all of this hard work would not make his Christmas complete, Sasuke assumed sadly. With his head turned downwards which almost hid his face in his bright green and red knitted scarf, he didn't realize that their house was already visible from his position. Those colorful Christmas lights and decorations the other houses were garnished with were ignored by the little boy.

Sasuke sighed and looked up when he caught some light away just a few meters away from him. He focused his vision upon the light and gave out a small gasp of surprise, emotions suddenly flooding his senses.

There, standing at their gate's front was his nii-san holding a lamp aloft, his face partially lit by the light. His usually calm and indifferent visage passing a strong sight of relief as he and Sasuke saw each other.

Sasuke's wish did come true after all.

A/N: Ha! Too, tooshort indeed. Reviews are appreciated. Have a nice day.
