She was crouched by a pond. As he tiptoed closer, he could hear her tears hit the water.

"Meggie…?" Farid bent down onto his knees.

"Farid? Is that you?" She immediately threw her arms around his neck. "I thought you had left me here."

He pulled her closer. "Never." He whispered in her ear. He could feel her body heat, as the night grew chilly.

"Oh Farid… What if we don't find Fenoglio or Dustfinger?" At that moment it started to rain.

Farid's protective instincts kicked in. He let go of her, but then he scooped her up and carried her to a cave he had found earlier.

"You've gotta keep warm and dry. The only clothes you've got are the one's you're wearing." Farid said, gently placing her back on the floor. He then sat down on the soft dirt.

"What about you? The same goes for you, right?" Meggie asked, inching her way closer to him.

"You're all that matters right now." Farid said. He pulled his shirt off and set it on the floor beside him to dry. He lay down, hoping it was dark enough to hide his embarrassment.

Meggie blushed. Without thinking he she lay down beside him and put her head on his chest. His skin was so soft and warm.

Although Farid was shocked by Meggie's sudden action, it felt quite natural. He wrapped his left arm around her.

Meggie lifted her head to look at him. He peered back at her. He then bent forward and... smirked.

His face was so closeMeggiecould almost taste him. As if reading her mind, Farid leaned yet further forward. As their lips touched, Meggie closed her eyes and melted in his arms.

Meggie wasn't sure how long her first kiss lasted, but it seemed like forever. She was glad it was Farid. His kiss was so gentle.

When the moment ended, both of them reluctantly pulled away. Meggie rested her head on hid chest, and Farid wrapped his arm around her once more. Meggie fell asleep to the sound of Farid's beating heart.

Farid lay awake, looking at the stars, replaying it over and over in his mind, until he too fell asleep.
