A/N: This is a songfic to 'Listen to Your Heart' By Roxette.

I know there's something in the wake of your smile.
I get a notion from the look in your eyes, yea.
You've built a love but that love falls apart.
Your little piece of heaven turns too dark.

"We can't be together, Charlie," I whispered, wiping the tears from my eyes. "We can never be together."

Charlie's hazel eyes shone with sadness and his face pleaded with me. "Hermione…please…give us a chance."

"I married to Ron!" I cried, choking on my words. "I'm married to your brother, and I love him. I can't love you. I can't…"

Charlie looked down at me, his gaze hard and wanting. He leaned in and kissed me, ever so softly, on the lips, moistening them. I let out a low moan.

He backed away, his face unforgiving. "Okay," he murmured, and turned, walking out of my life.

Listen to your heart
When he's calling for you.
Listen to your heart
There's nothing else you can do.
I don't know where you're going
And I don't know why,
But listen to your heart
Before you tell him goodbye.

"Charlie's coming over for a visit," said Ron, his expression nonchalant.

I froze, my body feeling such emotion that I hadn't experienced in years.

"Great," I finally whispered, closing my eyes.

Sometimes I wish I had said yes, and let Charlie in that day so many years ago. What would have become of it? Would we be in the same state as Ron and I, growing old together? Or would it have just been a temporary affair of the heart?

And was it too late to change my mind?

Sometimes you wonder if this fight is worthwhile.
The precious moments are all lost in the tide, yea.
They're swept away and nothing is what is seems,
The feeling of belonging to your dreams.

Charlie observed me longingly, his hazel eyes gleaming.

"It's too late, Hermione," he said, his voice flat. "We're too…old. That was all in the past, anyways."

"So are you saying you don't love me?" I asked, my voice shrill yet quiet.

Charlie reluctantly nodded.

"Don't lie to me, Charlie. You're a terrible liar. But, yes, maybe it is too late, but…" I looked off into the distance and sighed. "I choose wrong. I love you and will always love you. I'm sorry, too, for everything. I…I just wanted you to know that."

Charlie closed his eyes. He turned to me and gently put a hand to my chin. Slowly, he kissed me lightly, and I felt my insides melt with pleasure. "Okay," he said. "But we can never be together."

And there are voices
That want to be heard.
So much to mention
But you can't find the words.
The scent of magic,
The beauty that's been
When love was wilder than the wind.
