Politick

Pairing:
Ed x Roy
Spoilers: None
Rating: PG
Words: 212
Author's Note: I typically don't indorse RoyEd (popular pairings bore me), but this was inspired by someone very special to me, so I thought I'd dedicate it to them. I am always up for a challenge, so if anyone has any sort of pairing they want to see, I'm always game.

There was a time when he had nothing to lose and everything to gain, as a crippled child scrambling across the wooden floor, smearing his own blood in a pattern that only he could decipher.

There had been a time when the light behind his eyes had been dull, as if waiting and wishing for whatever buffer could shelter him from the cruelties that he himself had endured, yet was unable to grasp without being blinded by fear.

There had been a time when he would have started war, killed and tortured and mangled until the blood soaked through his skin, for the sake of a pride that he didn't understand, for the promise of a paradise he didn't want.

When the call of duty had been too much to bear, when the sheer possibility hung above him until he was blinded by ambition and uncontrollable wanting that he would have kneeled then and there, would have died, to save it.

And there had been a time when he would have turned a blind eye to suffering, just for a moment, so that he could cling to whatever notion of normalcy he could.

But what is one more sin to the sinner?

"Listen, Roy. You don't have to take me home tonight."

Kudos to anyone who can figure out the metaphorical undertones and allusions to canon.
