The space between...
lalalalalalalalalalallalalalalalala
There's so much heat in your gaze, so much fire. You always had the fire there, enough to melt anyone's heart. You were the only one who could melt my heart.
All I wanted was to study. To be a scholar, and then you were forced upon me.
No, don't think I didn't want you.
But I... we... were so young. How could we understand what was expected of us?
We broke the conventions, the constraints of our culture. We didn't produce an heir right after marriage.
In fact, we never got to "love" each other.
After all, there's no use for love when the one you love is dead.
There is miles of empty space between us, worlds apart.
But will I hold you again?
Will we see each other again?

Wufei looks as though he's thinking about something important. It has to be important for him to have such a glare, such a longing in his gaze.
He doesn't even notice me looking at him.
We've been partners in the Preventer's now for two years, and he still won't talk to me like a normal person.
I think that Treize's death, and the unsurity around the "death" of Zechs... Milliardo...Whatever he wanted to be called... is part of what keeps him from rejoining the human race as I like to put it.
He seems so distant, but he's only four feet away.
I know, from the pictures in his drawer, about the girl from before.
Before his entire colony self-destructed instead of submitting to OZ's rule.
You can still hear his screams at night behind his closed door in the barracks.
But he's never mentioned anything about her, and all I know is that he and Treize had some more intimate moments.
He, of all of us, knew the General the best. He told me once (he was drunk, so don't tell him I know) that he and Treize were "kindred souls, meant to be together in a dance of flesh and steel". In his drunken poetic philosophical type way, I think it means he liked the guy.
But hey, who am I to judge other people's feelings?
Anywho, he mentioned also that Meiran would never have approved of his losing to Trieze, twice.
I sigh.
Here goes nothing.
"Wufei, what's up? You've been staring into la-la-land for almost half an hour now."
He looks at me, startled. I can almost see the blush behind his black eyes...
"Nothing Maxwell, shut up and get to work.
-----------------------------------
A moment broken, no more time to think...
I sigh, maybe Maxwell knows more than he's letting on. Used to be that he would pester me until I would have to yell. Now he simply looks at me with those big eyes and says "If you need to talk..."
I do.
Here it goes...
------------------------------------------
"Maxwell..."
The tenative voice breaks the heavy silence accentuated by my grumblings of paperwork.
"Yes Wufei?"
He sighed softly, gathering his courage I think.
"Her name was Meiran. It was an aranged marriage..."

Oh, and the inspiration for this was the line from Dave Matthew's "The Space Between".
