Katou was born on Christmas Eve. Though he got Christmas and birthday presents, they were given to him at night when his father was not around by his sister and his mother.
Katou eventually grew to wish he had never been born. As a result, he hated his birthday and the season associated with it.
Christmas never brought Katou anything other than a day where he was never, ever beaten.
Then one Christmas, Kira spent it with him. They ate a ton, they laughed, and Kira bought him a gorgeous necklace with a cross.
Suddenly, Christmas wasn't that bad anymore.
