Seek To Understand Then To Be Understood
by HimeHikari
She was very curious.
Silence.
Very curious indeed. Something was definitely amiss. The usual bickering and mischief sounds that can destroy an entire civilisation in a blink of an eye were not present tonight.
Another peaceful and silent moment.
Something on the back of her head told her to look into the kitchen. And she did.
Slowly, she headed towards the brightly lit kitchen, bracing herself for whatever destruction that she will witness.
She had expected some kind of damage. But it never crossed her mind to observe something as…how could she put it into words…amusing?
Two angels, totally oblivious of her presence were placing ice cubes on their stained matching dinner plate.
The usual shiny, clear kitchen tiles were now smeared with spaghetti sauce. Their tiny hands were stained with it.
Smiles were plastered on the angels' cute faces.
She can't help but smile. Were they trying to wash their dinner plate?
She faked a cough. That caught their attention, and without warning, they dashed towards her, and hugged her like there was no tomorrow.
"Welcome back mommy." The young boy greeted.
"Lenore missed mommy." The girl continued.
She felt her heart melt. How she was always defeated by them with just a few words.
She patted their heads and asked "What were you doing?"
The blonde boy answered eagerly, his emerald eyes sparkled with excitement, "We were washing our dinner plate mommy!"
The midnight-blue haired girl nodded timidly.
"Why don't you just leave it in the sink for me to wash it?" she enquired.
"We wanted to help mommy. We know mommy is tired from working. Aunt Lacus told us so." Lenore answered cleverly.
She tried so hard to maintain a stern face.
"Then why don't you use the dishwasher?" she asked again.
"Mommy, we can't reach it!" Uzumi pointed out the obvious.
She laughed heartily and hugged her children tightly, before looking at them with another serious expression.
"Next time, tell mommy, or Mana for that matter if you want to wash your own plate, okay?"
"Why?" Uzumi asked innocently.
"So that we can give you a stool, then you can reach the dishwasher, and wash your plate there."
"And not dirtying the kitchen floor!" Lenore added with a giggle.
She nodded and kissed both their foreheads gently.
"Mommy still angry?" Uzumi asked.
She shook her head. "Why must mommy be angry?"
Both looked at her innocently. "You two are very hardworking. Mommy loves you so much."
Both looked at each other and smiled happily.
The moment he stepped into the living room, his two angels 'attacked' him, and didn't let him go.
Both giggled happily and exclaimed proudly, "We are very hardworking!"
He was slightly confused, but he welcomed his angles cuteness by tickling them.
From the corner of his eyes, he saw his queen, leaning by the doorframe, smiling contently.
She snuggled closely to his warm body. His fingers stroking her golden locks lazily.
"Care to explain why our children were so happy today?" he asked, still curious.
She giggled, and shook her head, "It's a secret."
He smiled knowingly.
She faced him and said, "I love you Athrun."
"I love you too Cagalli. Always." He answered before sealing it with a kiss.
