Home is with you.
Kane groaned as the rain poured and the dark clouds came together. He turned to look at his pregnant wife sleeping on the bed and sighed.
He couldn't help feeling the guilt he felt. He looked around him. This place was disgusting and no matter how hard he or someone tried to clean it, it would never look like a home.
Kane pulled the curtains together and sat down on the hard stool at what was supposed to be the dinner table, His back turned to Kirsty. This was all they could afford and with a baby on the way, he wasn't exactly feeling very pleased with himself. He couldn't shake off the feeling that he had failed his family.
"Babe"?
Kane turned around and strained a smile
"Hey, did I wake you"?
She shook her head and got up and waddled over to the table.
"What time do you start work"?
He was lucky enough to have found some casual work at the local petrol station, unfortunately he only ever got late shifts and he hated leaving Kirsty alone at night.
"11"
"Want me to make something for you"?
"Nah I'm fine"
She reached over the table, placing her hand atop of his.
"Is something wrong Kane"?
He shook his head and stood up to get a glass of water. All of a sudden he couldn't face her. She looked so vulnerable sitting at the deteriorating table in her dressing gown.
She got up and walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him
"Kane something's wrong and don't try to tell me otherwise, what's the matter?"
He let out a shaky breath
"Kane"
He couldn't lie to her.
"I just feel guilty"
Kirsty turned him around
"Guilty?" she asked in surprise "What on earth for"?
Kane groaned " Just look around babe, this place is a dump I hate that this is all I can give you, you deserve so much more" he ran his hand through his hair in frustration he added in a whisper " You deserve better than me"
Kirsty slapped his arm and glared at him " I don't want to ever hear you say that again Kane Phillips, I love you and I'm very lucky to have you in my life"
Kane rubbed his arm and she smiled.
"I love you Kane, when are you ever going to get that through your thick head, Babe you provide for us, I love how when you come home from work you kiss me and hug me before you fall asleep, your always there when I need you, you always give me all of you, you put a roof over our heads, and most importantly this place is ours and we are together and safe"
By now both of their eyes were teary " No matter where we go, I'm always home" she reached up and kissed him on the lips, Kane welcomed the warmth and the softness of her kiss.
She pulled away and stroked his face and whispered, " Home is with you"
