Chapter 1: Truth Be told

Jenna stood and stetched today was the big day. Her sweet sixteen. She dressed in a blue mini skirt, a striped blue tank top and high blue converses. She walked down the hall to the livingroom. The apartment was small, but cozy. It was a small three bedroom two bath. The livingroom was lit with a large reading lamp. Against one wall was the large green door. Her mom was on the leather sofa reading a book.

" Mom, tell me about my..father," Jenna said as she sat down next to her mother.

. " Okay. You deserve to know the truth... the whole truth. Your father is..." Mrs. Hammersmith said but was interupted by a soft knocking on the green door.

Mrs. Hammersmith opened the door. A tall man with a hard expression set on his face handed her a package and left.

" To Jenna from... oh dear!" Mrs. Hammersmith said.

" What? Let me see! From a Mr. Gregory ... House? Ha! What a crack pot he must be." Jenna laughed.

" Honey, he is your father. When you were four he left me and you because I told him I was madly inlove with someone else. Shortly afterwards he fell inlove with Stacey. He works at the hospital here in town. IF you want to see him you may go down there today," Mrs. Hammersmith said as she wiped a tear from her pink cheeks.

Jenna shook her head. Blond hair covered her eyes as she looked at the package.

Did she really want to open it? This is her father. Why now? Why not years ago?

Jenna opened the package slowly with shaking hands. Inside the package was a gift card and a lot more gifts sixteen to be exact. Jenna could feel the tears. She blinked hard. " Sixteen years and sixteen gifts," Mrs. Hammersmith said.

Jenna thought to herself, Today I will go to the hospital and talk to my... father. I will ask him why he left me and my mom!

Jenna ate lunch and left. She had cabfare and some pocket money. She stood outside the hospital. The large building loomed over her. She entered the glass doors. She could see the nurses station.

" Hello, I am looking for a Mr. Gregory House?" Jenna said to a nurse.

" House isn't in yet. Here write down your name and your number and he will contact you as soon as he gets here." says the nurse.

Jenna scribbled her name and number and hands it back to the nurse. She looked around the busy hospital. Sick people. She quickly left the hospital and went home.

Once back at home she sat on the metal stairs leading up to her apartment. She saw a man with a limp leaving with a name badge that read Dr. Gregory House.

" OH MY GOD! Excuse me sir, are you House?" Jenna asked.

" Yes?" House said.

" DAD!" Jenna cried.

" Jenna wake up! Dear wake up!" Mrs. Hammersmith said.

" What? It was a dream? " Jenna sighed.

" Happy birthday," Mrs. Hammersmith said.

Jenna got up and dressed and rushed down the hall and burst into the kitchen.

" I have got to hurry! I am gonna be late for school again!" Jenna breathed.

Mrs. Hammersmith tossed her a paperbag with money and a sandwhich in it.

" BYE SWEETIE!"Mrs. Hammersmith yelled after her daughter.

Jenna went to the school yard. The big red building loomed over the green grassy courtyard. Jenna sat down and pulled out her walkman.
