Say Hello

Time passes so fast.

It seemed like only yesterday he'd first saw him. His pale skin, his warm brown eyes, and that ever-present, broad smile that seemed to light the world. His voice rang out above all other sounds, his laughter acting as a beacon, inviting him closer, telling him that it was okay now; he didn't have to be alone anymore.

But he stayed his distance. He couldn't admit to himself that this was love at first sight. He couldn't approach him, couldn't speak to him or even around him. That warmth, that welcoming feeling that surrounded him, it was so close, so terribly close, and yet it was impossible to reach. Everyone else was able to bask in that feeling, able laugh and smile with him, while he was left in the cold.

He left, hoping against hope that he'd never have to see him again, hoping he'd never have to feel his heart wrench like that again. A blink of the eye was all it took for a year to pass, and he found himself staring across a sea of blood and death at that dazzling, bewildering smile, with his heart aching yet again.

Fate was the only thing that could have brought him back and put him in this position again. Time was the only thing that could've made him reconsider the distance he purposely put between them. He was afraid of losing that light; it was all he had now. If he never pursued it, he might lose it completely. It wouldn't take much to try.

Time flitted by as he gathered the courage to approach him. A day, a week, a month passed, and he could feel that light slipping away from his reach as others gathered round him, laughing and smiling and not knowing how much another wanted to be among them.

Then he was alone. For a moment, no one else was around, and he was just there, smiling, staring up at the sky, stars twinkling in his eyes. He could take it no longer. He would not let this chance walk past.

Rath approached him, his shoes making quiet noises as he walked through the grass. He looked up Rath as he came to a halt next to him, and his expression turned to surprise as he felt a hand slip into his own.

"… Hello, Wil."

A smile spread across Wil's face, and in that instant, Rath's world – his cold, empty, lonely world – was warm, and he felt welcome for the first time in his life. This light he'd chased after wasn't just some faraway sun anymore. A simple smile was all it took to confirm that he needn't be alone ever again.

"Hi, Rath," Wil replied, squeezing his hand in his. Rath let a small smile escape onto his features, and he tilted Wil's head up, laying a soft kiss on his lips.

Time had passed so fast. But it was okay now; he didn't have to be alone anymore. And all it had taken was a simple "hello."

A/N: This little drabble was inspired by the song "Say Hello" by Deep Dish. It's a trance song, and I really like it, so I tried to convey how I felt when listening to the song into this, since both RathWil and said song make me squeal with joy. Shortest ficlet I've ever written, but I like it quite a lot. Hope you do too. :D
