Lost – Between Them

She doesn't have to say anything to get his attention, he just comes, tethered to her, her heart reeling him in. He sits at her side, staring out at the ocean and they spend hours there. Neither one speaks. With everything they have to say, no words will be enough. They share a wistful smile when a small boy laughs in the distance, lost in thoughts and longing too sad to express. Then she stands, her hand pressed into his shoulder, and walks away, leaving him to the ocean and the waves, to their memories and the smallest of graves.
