Her Soul Bared
A/N – Just a little thing I wrote in about 5 minutes the other night – not sure where it came from but thought I would share. No spoilers as such … in fact if you don't know the spoilers for Season 2.1, I'm not sure how much sense this will make.
She knows that she can't live without him. More important still, she knows that she doesn't want to. He is part of her now, a piece of her that she couldn't function without.
She knows this more because of the bad times than the good and there has been a good sampling of bad times against which she can test her hypothesis.
At the worst, she convinces herself that she hates him, tells him that she does. She knows that they are just words. Words thrown in spite and anger.
Even when she feels humiliated by his interests, convinced that it's because she is not woman enough to keep him happy, keep him satisfied, she doesn't walk. She tries hard to understand his explanations, although most of the time she fails. She takes his word at face value, that his actions have nothing to do with her although the ache in her chest makes her feel otherwise.
She is learning to accept this part of him knowing that they have both changed over the years. Some for the better and some for the worse. But that's what they promised each other as they muttered their nervous promises after the world had ended, not fully understanding the potential of worse.
At times she questions the strength of their love.
But late at night when the world is sleeping, as he warms her cold skin and cradles her heart, she knows that this is where she is meant to be. Where she belongs.
And then she sleeps.
