Title: Blink's Everything

Author: Kloe Hart (HartBeat)

It wasn't as if he'd never had girlfriends. He had, plenty, as a matter of face. It seemed to him that the one person he truly wanted to spend his time with was the only person he couldn't have. True enough, the fact that he was gay probably contributed to this, but even so, Mush just seemed too wonderful. Blink couldn't imagine Mush wanting anything to do with him. Even if Mush were gay he'd probably go after someone with two eyes. Blink sighed. Would he ever be happy?

"Good mornin'" Racetrack yawned as he peeked over the top of Blink's bunk.

"Morning," Blink replied. He was more of a morning person then most of the Newsies but lately he'd taken to getting up slowly. This way he could watch Mush without drawing suspicion to himself. He pulled his blankets up a bit and watched Mush crawl out of bed. Mush never slept with a shirt on and it was making Blink's stomach turn over. Mush stood up and stretched, his muscular back tensioning and then relaxing again. Blink was transfixed. Mush got down on his knees and searched for his clothes under the bed. Standing up again he quickly got dressed. Part of the show was over. By this time, Blink was getting hurried out of bed by Kloppman so he too got dressed.

Throughout the day, Blink absentmindedly sold his newspapers, every now and then stealing glances at Mush who followed the same general route as he did. Mush and Blink got along great. You could probably say that they were best friends, but every day that grew increasingly inefficient for Blink. He wanted more. He wanted Mush himself. He wanted to be able to tell him his thoughts and fears and wants. The day wore on and on until it was time to return to the lodging house once more. The other Newsies were joking and laughing; Race and Jack were throwing punches into thin air and Bumlets was clicking his heels together.

"Wussa matta Kid?" Blink felt a soft hand on his shoulder. His heart nearly stopped beating. He turned to look into Mush big, deep brown eyes. He really wasgood looking, with that mocha coloured skin and that wiry hair.

"Nah," Blink shrugged, "I'm just kinda down is all,"

"Is dere anything I can do ta help?" Mush asked, his hand still on Blink's shoulder. Yeah there is, Blink thought miserably. There was a split second's hesitation before Blink found himself doing the inevitable. He put his hand on top of Mush's and pulled him close. He pressed his lips to the other boy's and let his hand run down his back. For a second Blink feared Mush might pull back, disgusted and dirtied, but he didn't. He slowly brought his hand up Blink's back. The sensation was incredible. Every single one of Blink's nerves tingled. He had wanted this for so long. The kiss finally broke apart and neither of the two boys said anything. Just silence.

"Shall we, uh, head inside then," Mush suggested, running his fingers through his hair with some difficulty.

"Yeah," Blink took Mush's hand and the two of them went to face whatever decided to come their way… together.
