Chapter 1

Yami sat on his throne, looking and feeling rather bored. He had been in a meeting with his councillors for most of the morning. They were arguing over something that he had long since forgotten. He glanced out between the columns, over the city of Thebes. He raised his head a little when he noticed the light rain beginning to fall. The light patter seemed to relax him a little.

He turned to the door, when there was a soft knock. The room fell silent as the guards opened the door.

" Who is it?" asked Yami.

" It is your brother sire."

Yami's face brightened and he sat up.

" Let him in."

The guard stepped aside and let Yami's brother in. His brother, Yumi, walked in.

" What can I help you with little one?"

Yumi looked around at all the councillors.

" I am not disturbing you? You look busy."

" No, it is alright, go ahead."

There was some muttering near the back

" Well, it's just…" he motioned for Yami to come closer. He leaned down and Yumi whispered something to him.

" Are you sure? She's here!"

Yumi nodded, " But I'll tell her you're busy and that you can't see her."

Yumi started to walk out, slowly.

" No wait, I'll come with you." Yami quickly made his way to the door.

" But Pharaoh what about this problem?" spoke a councillor.

" Um, just divide it equally and…eh…what he said was right."

The councillors bowed as Yami left the room then started mumbling to each other.

Tiri stood near one of the columns, looking out over the rain-covered city. She stretched her hand out catching some of the water in her hand.

" Tiri?"

She brought her hand back in and turned to the person speaking to her. She smiled, " Yami, it's good to see you."

Yami smiled back.

" I thought you would not come. It took you awhile."

" Sorry, something came up in Elephantine."

There was silence between them.

Unknown to them the councillors and Yami's advisor, Djau, appeared down the far end of the corridor.

" Tiri close your eyes," spoke Yami, hiding a smirk.

Tiri looked at him, confused. " Why?"

" Just close your eyes."

Tiri nodded and closed her eyes.

Slowly, Yami walked towards her. Tiri moved her head slightly as if knowing he was close to her. He smirked and leaned forward, tenderly kissed her forehead before going down to her lips. After awhile she pulled away, smiling.

" That is some welcoming."

" I missed you."

" I was only gone 3 days." She reached up and pushed aside a golden bang.

Yami kissed her hand as it moved back and smiled down at her.

" That was too long," he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him.

Tiri smiled then raised her hand to her mouth to hide a yawn.

" Are you tired?" he looked down at her.

She nodded, " It was a long trip."

Yami looked out at the already darkening sky.

" Come on, I'll show you to your room."

He took her hand and lead her down the corridor.

Djau and the councillors started muttering to each other.

" So that's her, the one Niumateped wrote about." Djau turned and walked away from the councillors.

Yugi watched as the nurse adjusted some of the equipment around Yami.

" Yugi don't worry," came Bakura's voice.

Yugi stood quickly.

" Stop it," he spoke in a harsh tone that surprised even Bakura.

" I'm sick of people telling me not to worry. There are reasons for me to be worried. It's been 2 weeks. He hasn't woken up, not even flinch. They tell me not worry. I-I…"

Yugi couldn't continue and lowered his head. Bakura noticed his hands shaking.

" I know you're scared Yugi, but you have to believe me, he'll pull through."

Bakura looked over as the nurse adjusted the flow of oxygen coming from the respirator then gave Yami a final check before leaving.

" Bakura, I need some air. I'm just going for a walk." Yugi walked out the room, keeping his head lowered.

Once Bakura was sure Yugi was gone, he walked closer to the bed.

" Damnit Pharaoh, don't do this to him. I know he still has faith you'll wake up, but it is been so long he is beginning to have doubts. I wish you could see what this is doing to him. I am doing the best I can to keep him from giving up completely, but I won't last much longer. His faith and mine is slipping away."

Bakura fell silent and went back to his chair.
