Chapter 3
Yami shook himself out of his trance as he walked the corridor.
* I have been doing that a lot recently and what about those voices?*
" Brother!"
He looked up to see his younger brother waving at him.
" Why do you want me here?"
Yumi smiled, " Follow me."
Quickly Yumi grabbed Yami's and dragged him down the corridor to the courtyard. He walked him up to the pond.
" Ok, stand here Yami and don't move."
Yami just stared at Yumi confused then nodded.
" Fine I will wait."
Yumi turned and ran back into the palace. Yami glanced around and sighed as he sat down on a marble bench.
After a minute, he raised his head as he heard someone talking and they were coming closer. He stood as he recognised the voice belonging to Tiri.
" I hope you enjoy your new home. I am quite enjoying it."
* Who is she talking to?*
He walked round the pond, to see Tiri sitting by the pond talking to her pet kestrel.
" Here." She held her hand out so the bird could eat some seeds.
" Tiri?"
She turned and stood.
" Yes, Yami… Pharaoh?"
Yami walked up to her.
" You can call me Yami."
She nodded, " What can I do for you Yami?"
She sat down and continued to feed her kestrel.
" Um… I did not know you had brought your kestrel." He sat down on the other side of the bird.
" S he just arrived, I was not about to leave her in Elephantine on her own."
" Could she have not stayed with your mother or sister?"
Yami noticed Tiri smile, " I do not think so, we will not say why." She stroked the bird gently.
The bird walked over to Yami.
" Yami give me your hand."
Yami slowly raised his hand and Tiri carefully put some seeds into it.
" Now just hold your hand here." She guided his hand down till it was in front of the bird. The bird hopped then started eating the seeds. Yami smiled and watched the bird continue to eat. Soon enough the bird had finished, it jumped about and then flew into a nearby tree.
Tiri dusted off her hands as did Yami.
" Yami what did you want?" She didn't look at him as she asked but watched her bird.
Yami took a deep breath before turning to Tiri.
" I do trust you, Tiri. I trust you with my life." Tiri quickly faced him. " I did not mean to question you, I was worried about you. I do not want to see you hurt in anyway. I do not want to lose you, I love you more and more each day, everytime I see you my love grows stronger."
Yami turned away from her before standing. Tiri stood quickly.
" Yami wait. You shouldn't be apologising, I should be. I stormed out and you have every right to know where I was, you are Pharaoh after all. I promise if I go anywhere I will tell you first. I will stay by your side no matter what."
Yami just stared down into her greeny-grey eyes before smiling. Tiri smiled back, taking his hands in her own. He leaned down and lightly kissed her before pulling her closer, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close to him, as if he was afraid she might run away or disappear.
" Come with me." Yami let go, took her hand and started leading her to the palace.
" Where are we going?" asked Tiri.
" I want to show you something, come on."
Tiri followed him as he lead her around.
(15 minutes later.)
Tiri stared in awe at the sight.
" Yami it's-it's beautiful." She walked to the balcony rail.
" I thought you might like it, I have been meaning to show you for a while."
Yami stood next to her and admired the view.
" This has always been my favourite room," he added.
It was about sunset, the sky was turning a dusty orange and the buildings were coloured in a orange hue. The setting sun sparkled off the river water and reflected off the many gold painted statues. People were happily going about their business of returning home. The guards changed shifts to the sound of marching feet.
" Tiri, will-will you marry me?"
Tiri managed to pull her eyes off the scene to look at him.
" I-I do not know. Are you sure about this? I mean…" She was silenced when Yami put a finger to her lips.
" I have never been so sure about anything in my life. I love you and I want to be with you forever," he whispered.
" But what about your advisor and brother?"
" It is ok. My brother, it seemed saw this coming. He likes you. My advisor approves of you, the only person whose opinion was important to me, was Niumateped and he liked you greatly. I ask you again will you marry me Tiri?"
Tiri could see it, that if she said no, he would truly be heartbroken, but she had made up her mind.
" Yami… yes I will marry you."
Her response washed away all her fears, he suddenly felt that a great weight had been removed from his shoulders.
" Really?"
She smiled and nodded. He smiled happily and quickly pulled her into a big hug which catch her by surprise.
Once he had put her back down on the floor, he kissed her passionately. Slowly she pulled away and rested her head on his shoulder.
" Could you stay here with me? You do not have to, but your room is on the other side of the palace."
" I would be happy too." She smiled and lightly kissed his chin.
Yami walked into the room followed by Tiri and slowly laid down on the bed. Tiri smiled as she felt a strong arm around her waist. She turned and faced Yami.
" Good night Yami," She kissed him lightly before snuggling closer to him and falling asleep.
Yami watched her drift off into a quiet sleep. Suddenly he felt something in him twinge. It was a feeling that this was not right or if it was something was missing. He looked down at Tiri. Lightly he kissed the top of her head.
" Goodnight Tiri." He whispered, before falling into a dreamless sleep.
Bakura pulled a blanket out of a draw. Unfolding it, he placed it over the sleeping Yugi. Yugi was curled up on a chair, near the window, his head resting on his folded arms. Slowly he walked to a chair and sat down himself. Again his vision shifted to the Pharaoh.
A nurse was, again, checking him, adjusting his IV line, some of the equipment. She was filling in the chart as a doctor walked in.
" How is he tonight?" asked the doctor.
" As well as can be expected."
" Thank you, keep me informed of his progress."
The doctor and nurse walked out of the room.
Bakura stood up slowly and walked to the side of the bed. He didn't like this. Yami, the Pharaoh, was in a coma. Yami had always been so strong before.
He listened to the steady beat of Yami's heart, on the machine, the only thing telling them that he was still here.
' He was hiding his pain. This whole time it was her death. He tried to tell me something but Yugi ran in. Why didn't I persist? I should have questioned further.'
" Yami, I must say this before its too late," he took a deep breath, " I slightly feel that this is my fault, you tried to tell me something, but I didn't persist. Yami I consider you a friend but you will always be a rival, somewhat. And I hope for Yugi's sake and Tiri's you will wake up soon."
Bakura smiled, happy he had finally got that off his chest. Slowly he turned and walked out the room.
