Chapter 4

Yami blinked as the sun hit him in the eyes. Slowly he turned over and opened his eyes completely. He found his face only inches away from Tiri's. A smile crept onto his face, she was still fast asleep a completely peaceful look on her face. He reached out and carefully brushed aside a strand of her hair.

'Why can't we stay like this?' he wondered to himself. 'Because she isn't here.'

Tiri frowned slightly before turning over, her hand searched for his. Yami took her hand in his and she fell silent for a moment. She smiled and he continued to run his fingers through her hair.

"I wonder what you are dreaming about?" he whispered quietly.

Suddenly images flashed before his eyes, he saw himself standing by the Nile, his cloak blowing in the hot wind. Yami didn't understand the image because of its shortness, deep down he felt it was something important about it.

A knock at the door sounded and Yami groaned slightly as he slowly untangled himself from Tiri, she whimpered slightly at the absence of his warmth. Yami walked towards the door taking a glance back at her. Quietly he opened it and his advisor stood before him.

"Yes, what is Djau?"

"I am sorry to disturb you, your Majesty," spoke Djau.

"It is alright, please go on."

Djau bowed his head, "Sire a meeting has been called and you are required to attend."

"I will be there shortly, thank you Djau."

He closed the door and turned back to the bed and Tiri sleeping soundly within the covers. Slowly he started to walk towards her but suddenly he found himself in the vision he had earlier. Again he saw himself standing next to the Nile, the wind blowing harshly though it brought comfort to his other self. He watched as his other self turned away from the river to what looked like a procession heading off the boat nearby. Taking a deep breath he walked towards the procession, Yami following close behind. The guards stopped and his advisor walked up to him.

"Where would you like us to take her, my Pharaoh?"

"Take her to the temple; I will bring her family myself in an hour."

His advisor nodded and turned to the men carrying the body. Slowly they started walking off, but they didn't get very far before Yami saw himself stop them.

"Wait, there is something I need to do first."

'What is going on?' thought Yami as he watched.

They stopped and Yami watched as he headed towards the body, Yami still couldn't see who it was. His other reached out and gently stroked the face before leaning down and whispering in the ear, but Yami heard every word like they were aimed at him.

"I have brought you home, my love, just like I promised. I will see you soon, both of you. Please wait for me my love, my Tiri."

'Tiri!... but she is al…' Yami stopped his thoughts as he clearly saw her, his Tiri laying there unmoving. His other moved a strand of her hair, before moving back and nodding at the men in front of him. Both Yami and his other watched as the men headed in the direction of the temple, but they didn't follow the men. Instead they went in a different direction, towards a house close to the river.

The images moved quickly and Yami suddenly found himself in the gardens of the house, a man and three women heading towards them. Yami stood back as he watched his other greet these people.

'I know them, they are Tiri's parents and sisters, but where is her brother?'

"Pharaoh, this is a surprise, if we had known you were coming we would have prepared some sort of dinner."

"It is quite alright, we will not be staying long. Where is your son?"

Tiri's father looked around, before turning back to Yami.

"Late as usual, never on time that boy. You can go on Pharaoh I am sure he will turn up soon enough."

Yami watched as his other took a quick glance at the sky before speaking.

"I am here today because I bring news that can't be written down and I owe it to you to tell you in person, what happened."

Tiri's father looked to her mother and she carefully sat down on a bench, just as Tiri's older brother entered the garden.

Yami watched as the conversation went on, watched as the expressions of the people changed to sadness and sorrow. The women started to cry and comfort each other, the son comforted his mother. But Tiri's father stood in front of Yami.

"Who was it? Who took my daughter's life away?"

"It was me. I took her life with my own hands."

Again the images moved quickly and this time Yami found himself in a temple, Tiri's family with him. He watched as they moved towards her body, as they cried for their lost relative. Yami stayed behind out of the way, just watching. Her father was the first to move away from Tiri's body and he headed towards him.

"I know that this is not your fault and you shouldn't blame yourself, Tiri would not have wanted that."

"But it is my fault, I promised I would protect her and I didn't, I even protect her from me. You didn't see her, these past few days, she was so happy, every time I show her there was a smile on her face. But I took that away, I took everything away and now I can only hear her in my dreams." He walked up to Tiri's body; his fingers went to the necklace she wore.

"I am so sorry. I didn't' deserve your love."

Quickly he pulled out a dagger from his belt.

"Pharaoh, no."

Yami opened his eyes and sat up.

"Tiri?"

"I am right here Yami."

Tiri moved away from the balcony and came and sat next to him on the bed.

"Are you alright?" She asked as she ran her fingers through his hair.

"Yes what happened?"

"You collapsed, you've been asleep for almost the whole afternoon. You really had me worried."

"I'm sorry." He mumbled as he looked down at the sheets.

"Yami what is it? What is wrong you can tell me?"

He lifted his eyes to meet hers.

"It is just…I" He reached forward and put his arms around her, burying his face in her shoulder. "I do not wish to lose you again, but I know I will."

Tiri moved Yami away from her so she could look at him.

"Again? You haven't lost me before and you are not going to. What are you talking about?" She asked him a little confused.

He ran his hand over her cheek before cupping her face and leaning forward, kissing her forehead then capturing her lips in a passionate kiss.

"I have lost you," he spoke as he pulled away. "I keep hearing voices, people I think I should know. I get visions, all it is, is a bright white light. Always with the visions, I get a pain in my chest with them."

He stood and walked away from the bed, Tiri's eyes following him.

"This is not real, you are not real. I love you I truly do but… I saw you die, I held you as your life slipped away. You are dead."

"I am glad you finally realise."

Yami turned to find that Tiri was no longer there but instead was the old man from his first dream.

"You!"

The old man hobbled over to Yami.

"I did warn you, but if you listen to me now you will be able to get out of this."

"Why are you helping me? You a god and the Gods helped to put me in here."

"Yami, I am your guardian. From the moment you where born we felt that you would achieve great things, which you have not yet completed, you have some time to go. I was sent to watch over you, to help you achieve these."

Yami looked to the small God.

"Please I do not want to; I do not want to go back."

The God sighed, "What about Yugi Moto? Will you leave him?"

"Yugi?" mumbled Yami.

"He wants to help you. He has stayed by your side, go back and let him help you come to terms with your grief."

Yami thought quietly to himself.

"Maybe this will help you."

"Yami?" came a new voice.

Yami turned, eyes wide in shock, but quickly the shock was replaced with joy and sadness.

"Tiri?" he whispered, unsure.

Standing across from him was Tiri. She was wearing a white linen dress with gold patterns sewn in. She smiled and nodded. Slowly he walked up to her.

"It is really me Yami."

He smiled, "How did you know I was going to ask?"

"I always have known what you're going to say." She took hold of his hands and looked up into his eyes. "You know why I am here?"

Yami breathed in deeply, "To say good-bye. Please do not go… I do not know what…" He was silenced by Tiri placing her hand up to his lips. Yami felt the tears stinging his eyes. He blinked and they fell, but he didn't care."

Tiri lowered her hand.

"Do not speak like that, you know it will never be good-bye, but you have to go on. You are a strong individual, one of the strongest I have met. Please do not leave Yugi. He needs you more then I do."

Slowly he raised his hand to her cheek and smiled as he felt the warmth of her skin. She smiled and raised her hand to touch his hand.

"Look at you, getting all into a state." She whispered.

Yami smiled and wiped his eyes.

"I do not need to tell you how much you still mean to me."

"You've told me many times and more Yami. I feel exactly the same. I love you and I will wait for you. We will wait for you."

He leaned forward and gently kissed her forehead, before pulling her into a strong embrace. He smiled as the scent from her hair filled his mind.

Yugi stared out at the mid-morning sky, he seemed to be staring out the window a lot recently. He turned when he heard the heart monitor pick up slightly. He walked closer to the bed.

"Yami?" he whispered.

Nothing.

Maybe, nah… I'm getting my hopes up again.

He glanced down as he turned away, Yami's hand moved very slowly.

"Yami, can you hear me?" Yugi gently picked up his hand. "Squeeze my hand if you can."

Yugi felt a slight squeeze on his hand. He looked up as Bakura walked in.

"Bakura get the nurse, I think Yami is coming round."

Bakura nodded and walked out the room.

Yugi rubbed Yami's hand to see if he could get him to wake up completely.

Yami coughed slightly, then groaned before opening his eyes. He was greeted by a bright smile from Yugi.

"It's good to see you awake Yami. Do you feel ok?"

Yami squeezed Yugi's hand in response, due to the tube down his throat stopping him from talking.

"Grandpa saved you some butterscotch pudding."

Yami smiled as best as he could, before his gaze dropped to the floor. Yugi noticed this and gave Yami a reassuring rub on the hand. Yami looked at him and quickly pulled Yugi into a hug. Yugi was shocked at first but when he felt the dampness on his shoulder he understood. Carefully he returned the hug and felt Yami tighten his grip.

"I will help you Yami." he whispered
