Summary: Maybe there was hope after all… Obi/Qui slash

He was surprised that Master Yoda trust him to raise one more child. Look at the good he did with Anakin. But at least this Skywalker would be only a distant responsibility for him. He could watch Luke grow up from afar. It meant at least two more decades in solitude and desolation, but it was a fit penance for the one who couldn't keep Anakin Skywalker from straying to the dark side of the force.

"Master Kenobi."

Obi-Wan looked up, surprised to see Master Yoda still watching him.

"In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you," the green Jedi continued.

"Training?" It wasn't exactly torture, and it would keep his mind occupied as he watched the boy grow.

"An old friend has learned the path to immortality," Master Yoda elaborated.

Obi-Wan felt the first stirrings of hope in his chest in a long time. "Who?" His voice shook.

Yoda's reply was gentle. "One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force to train me . . . your old Master, Qui-Gon Jinn."

Obi-Wan choked on a sob. "Qui-Gon? But how could he accomplish this?"

"The secret of the Ancient Order of the Whills he studied," Yoda answered. "How to commune with him I will teach you."

"I'll be able to talk with him?" Talking to his old master might not be the same as sharing a life with him, but the familiar presence would make his time on Tatooine less lonely.

Again, Master Yoda gave him that understanding smile. "Ask him why don't you?"

And that voice that he hadn't heard in so long filled his head. Love, Qui-Gon said softly.
