A/N: Was originally supposed to be…well, not what it is. I'm hoping to write something cute and happy soon though. Oh, and I named Pirate King "Roger".
Frederick hung back as Ruth and Roger led him back to the pirate ship. He had never asked to be a pirate, and had no wish to be one; it was duty alone that had him following his nanny and the Captain home.
It was silly of him to think of the ship as home, but hadn't he grown up on it? There wasn't a knot in the rigging, a crack in the floorboards, or a tear in the sails he didn't know by heart. Frederick knew more about boats than he did about women…and look where that had got him.
And now he was a pirate once more. Oh, how he hated his obligations to duty. What would become of him? What would Mabel do? Could they both wait until 1940to be together?
"Something wrong my lad?" Roger called from ahead, apparently, with all of his pondering Frederick had fallen farther behind than he had intended.
"No, not at all." said Frederick, though he didn't really mean it.
