Voice Mail

Syaoran sat in front of the low table, staring at the phone. He pressed the button for speaker phone; then dialed the familiar number.

"Hello, this is Sakura Kinomoto" he heard the voice say sweetly "sorry but I'm not here right now. Please leave a message at the tone...beep."

Syaoran hung up, placing the phone back in it's cradle. He then took out his phone and checked his voice mail again.

"Hello Syaoran, it's Sakura" he heard his girlfriend say "I'm sorry that I missed you. I just wanted to remind you of our date Saturday evening. I'm looking forward to seeing you...so see you soon. I love you."

Syaoran smiled sadl as he turned off his phone.

"Goodbye Sakura" he murmured quietly.

Meiling entered the room, carrying a pink cellphone "Syaoran, are you calling Sakura again?" she asked worriedly "her cell was ringing."

"It's the only way that I can hear her voice" Syaoran whispered quietly.

"Syaoran, it's been one month" Meiling said sadly, looking at him with pity in her eyes.

"Meiling, I can't forget her..." Syaoran could hear tears in his voice "I miss her so much."

"So do I" Meiling whispered.

Syaoran stood, grabbing Sakura's phone from Meiling's hand as he headed upstairs to the empty bedroom he knew he would find.

It was pink, pictures of Sakura, Syaoran, and their friends were hung on the walls. Syaoran sat down on the bed, and fell down among the stuffed animals.

He didn't care anymore; his heart was empty.

He gazed at the newspaper clipping on her wall. It read:

"High-school student Syaoran Li won Japan's Annual Martial Arts Tournament for the fourth time in a row" the headline read. Under the picture was the heading "Syaoran Li standing with his family and friends, including his girlfriend Sakura Kinomoto."

Syaoran took the smal black box out of his pocket and stared at the ring inside it.

His cell began to ring and Syaoran calmly answered it.

"Yes?" he asked.

"Hi Syaoran, it's me" Eriol said "Tomoyo and I were wondering if you wanted to have dinner with us on Saturday at 7 at the usual place? We can talk about Sakura."

"Sure" Syaoran said.

"I heard" Eriol's voice was hesitant "Meiling told us that you've been listening to Sakura's voice mail again."

"What does it matter?" Syaoran asked lazily.

"Syaoran" Eriol was worried.

"I'll see you on Saturday" Syaoran said, and hung up.

He stood up and walked to the door. He stared back at the room.

"I miss you Sakura" he whispered quietly "I love you so much."

He then closed the door. He loved her so much; he listened to her voice mail so that he could hear her voice.

On the desk was a newspaper clipping with a picture of Sakura on the front. The headline read:

"Sakura Kinomoto was killed by a drunk driver while on her way to a date with her boyfriend."

Sakura had died a month ago; and Syaoran still missed her.
