"Okay, test today!" Rem looked at her young charges cheerfully. Another good thing: they never complained about tests, like everyone in her classes had when she was a kid.

"On what?" asked Knives.

"Well...hm. Dictation number four again! Motor skills. You two two-monthers have to make sure you can hold a pencil right, you know."

" I can hold a pencil," Knives told her.

"I can hold two!" Vash proceeded to demonstrate.

"But can you write with one? Here: paper. And we'll go down to the bridge when you finish: Joey's going to show you two the controls and see what you think."

"Alright!"

"Yes." Rem nodded and held up her own paper, clicking the remote for the room's four cameras to begin recording. "Test nineteen, dictation number four. (and to Vash and Knives:) Names, dates at the top of the papers, tell me when you're ready."

"Reeemm," Vash said after a moment, "Knives put his date first."

"Yeah, so? It's s'posta go like that. Anyway you're not s'posta be looking at my paper."

"Yeah but you did it wrong. Will we get in trouble if we write it wrong?"

"I don't see why he should," Rem told him.

"Yeah. So stop it."

"Right! Number one!" Rem began reading aloud, but had only got half the test in before being interrupted once more.

"Now he's writing pictures off the side!" Vash said. "See, he's doing pictures!"

"No I'm not! Stop looking at my stuff, Vash!" Knives leaned over his paper, covering it with and elbow and his shirt while looking over his shoulder at Vash. "You're not- Rem, he's looking at my work!"

"Now, Vash." Rem shook her finger at him. "Eyes on your own work."

"But he was drawing pictures-"

"So I was drawing! So I'm done, I can draw if I want!"

"You're finished?" Rem put her test-paper down, holding out her hand for Knives', voice going quiet. Knives loked up in alarm. "Show me." Then, as Knives hesitated, "Knives, show me your paper, please."

Knives handed his paper over and looked at the table, slumping.

The two papers in Rem's hand matched exactly, but for the script - one computerized, the other Knives' controlled scrawl - and the half-sketched glass-blades on the margins. "You finished? But how did you know what was coming?"

Knives shrugged a bit. "You read that one before."

"Only once! You memorized it?"

"...yeah?"

He flinched away at Rem's sudden movement, but it was only to catch Knives up in a hug, and draw Vash in with the other arm. "Boys," she told them, "you're wonders. "

PTG: A haha. Years sinceI wrote Trigunfic. Years.

I was given the theme of "Vash and Knives, discussing first dates." Well, I fulfilled that, to a point.

I enjoyed this one.
