Life Is Short

Disclaimer: I do not own Lord of the Rings.

This is a revamped version of Cherry Blossoms. After re-reading it, I have come to admit that my writing was not very good and have resolved to fix it with new characters and new culture. Thank you.

This is just a preview. I put this out so I can get a beta-reader interested in this story before I put out the full story.

Chapter One

Thunder booms overhead as rain pours down, making it almost impossible to see. Many cars slow down and in one red mini-van, a young girl about fifteen years of age complains, urging her mother to go faster. Two younger boys sitting in the back ignore the rain and their older sister, the older boy of ten years is reading while the younger of eight years is playing a gameboy. "Mom. We have to hurry. We're going to be late," whines the girl, her brown hair flying as she shakes her head furiously, her blue eyes glaring at her mom. The mother glares at her daughter out of the corner of her eyes, ignoring her daughter's whines and driving slowly.

"Mom. Hurry," she complains, her voice going a pitch higher. Her younger brother looks up from his book and sighs.

"Shut up Rachel. So what if we're late? It's not like it's a big deal," says the boy, before going back to his book.

Rachel glares at her brother for a minute before slumping in her seat and muttering, "Whatever. You just don't understand what is means to be on time, Jacob." Jacob ignores her, his head still lowered as his brown eyes scan the text in front if him. The indication he gives of hearing her comment is a smirk as his younger brother sighs, never looking up from his gameboy.

"You guys are so immature," he mutters, his brown eyes practically glued to the screen of his gameboy. Rachel gives him a sidelong glance and smiles.

"Like you're one to talk Danny." Silence reigns in the car before Rachel leaves the fruitless search of scenery in the pouring rain and glances at the clock, which reads 5:47 P.M. Panic enters her features and she sits up straight. "Mom! You have to hurry!" Her mom is surprised at the sudden outburst and speeds ahead for a few seconds before trying to slow her car down, but it was two late. The sudden speed caused the tires to slip and the car went swerving. As the mother tries to get the car back in control, Rachel is screaming, Jacob drops his book and clutches his seatbelt, Danny also drops his gameboy and screams along with Rachel. A trunk honking is heard, steadily getting louder as Rachel starts to scream out the Lord's Prayer, her mind yielding to panic and fear.

Suddenly, a particularily large sound of thunder boomed and the occupants of the red mini-van knew no more.

A groan is heard in the wilderness of the woods. Lights filtered through the leaves of the majestic trees and animals paused their activites at the sound, but continued on. However, the animals were not the only one to hear the noise. A figure is seen working on a fire, but after is heard the groan, it looked up. The figure had thick, silky dark hair, bound with leather at the the nape of his neck and had deep brown eyes. His skin seemed translucent, almost glowing in the shadows of the trees. The most astounding thing of all is his delicately pointed ears. He looked around as the groan echoed once more and followed the sound, leaving his camp behind, but not without his bow and arrows notched.
