Chapter 2: All But One Lives
As Maximus associated with Juba; Commodus, Lucilla and their new servant that Commodus cleverly picked up, returned to Rome. As Lucilla and Commodus walked up the stairs of the Senate, the young girl treaded slowly behind them. As they entered the Senate, Lucius ran to his mother and they embraced each other. The two senators, Falco and Gracchus, greeted Commodus. He was needed in the Senate right away. Commodus assigned the servant to Lucius, Commodus and Lucilla left to hear the newest predicaments of Romans' lives. Lucius and his new servant were taken up to his room, "Hello, what is your name?" Lucius asked her.
"Emilia. I was taken from my home because HE needed a servant."
"Oh, do you like to play fights?" Emilia's face brightened up as he said this,
"Yes, I love to. My father taught me the skills of the sword when my brother and I were young, I hope he is all right."
"Who is your father?"
"He is a general of an army for Rome. He used to associate with that woman."
"That's my mother! So your father knew my mother. Cool."
"Yes, I suppose so. I just hope he is all right, he never returned from his war in Germania, when he wrote to me, saying he'd be with us afterwards."
"I'm sure he's all right. Now let's play!" Lucius said, anxiously.
As Lucius and Emilia fought with wooden swords, Maximus was fighting other slaves teamed up with Juba. They made a perfect team, the crowd loved the "Spaniard" so much afterwards that Proximo set up a solo match with Maximus fighting four slaves at a time. They looked intimidating, but he had sliced through all three easily. The last slave, he stuck two swords into him and then pulled them out, and quickly sliced off his head. Maximus had scared the crowd, but then they were cheering at him for more. He then discovered that they were to travel to Rome and fight in the great Coliseum. He would be able to fight in front of Commodus and possibly soon avenge Marcus Aurelius and his family.
