Tails of darkness plot/story by Kagura written by Nyte ---------------------------

Prologue:

I opened my eyes. It only took me a second to realize, that all around me, everywhere I turned, was darkness. I was surrounded by it, engulfed in it. Though, as I stared ahead, I saw something, a light that parted the darkness, so bright that I had to put my arms over my eyes and turn my head away so my eyes could adjust to it. Even after they had, I found myself squinting at this light as I walked towards it.

As I got closer and closer, it became much clearer to me, easier to see the detail of this light before me. It was a door. Right in front of me, only a few steps away. I had the strangest feeling that this, all of this, wasn't right, that it just wasn't normal. I had no idea where I was, I don't think I'd ever been to this place before.

But, as I looked to the door, each second that went by, my curiosity multiplied. 'What lies on the other side?' I thought to myself, as this and many other questions raced through my mind. I made my decision, and took a step towards the door. Though, as I did, it felt like I was walking a much longer distance, as if covered miles in a mere footstep.

Every step I made, I noted, the door seemed to pull further and further away from me, as if it didn't want me to open it. I continued on the hopeless chase, the door just out of my reach.

Then, everything changed. The darkness and light seemed to trade places, the door becoming a dark shadow on the light that surrounded me. I had to close my eyes; it was too bright for me to see clearly. A few seconds passed, and I slowly opened my eyes, feeling like my eyes were slowly being burned by this light.

My thoughts cleared, my mind cleansed completely, barring a single thought I had in the back of my mind. "Where am I?" It felt like I had spoken that out loud, as I took a few more steps towards the door. I reached to open it.

It opened, and what stood in the now opened doorway both confused and scared me right down to my very bones. A figure of complete darkness, strangely taking a form closely resembled to my own, though right now its looks weren't the thing I was worried about, as it advanced towards me, those red eyes gazing, staring me down with an unnatural intensity that had me frozen in fear.

It stood directly in front of me now, those red eyes gazing into my own eyes, as if reading my mind and soul. It uttered three words, three words that made no sense to me.

"Have you forgotten?"

It raised both if its arms, grasping my throat in its hands. I felt a jolt of fear shoot through my spine like an icy spear…

I suddenly sat up in my bed, and I could feel the sweat on my body. My breaths were quicker than they normally would be.

"What the heck just happened?" I said to myself, though I'm not sure if I wanted to remember it. I know I've seen that dark figure before, as I've been having dreams similar to this for months now. But this was the first time that it had actually spoken, that it had said something to me.

Each time this dream occurs, it seems to progress further and further, though, each time, I wake up with the same question in my mind, the same question running through my mind.

"Remember what?"
