Why Do You Even Bother Trying?By: Kari Konoko Mononoke
Rated R—this story contains violence, coarse language and adult situations…reader discretion is advised.A/N—lol. I can't resist doing that. Anyways, I'm starting a new story, don't worry, I'll do the other one as well but I got the idea for this one so yeah. Btw if anything I say gave you the idea that I'll update regularly you're greatly mistaken; I update when I have ideas AND spare time. Which isn't often, so I'll try my best. My pen name is going to be in this story but it's not me, I got that nickname at school because of the stories and drawings I do on her (the character herself) um… the only thing we have in common would be our personality because that's just what "the people" decided for me to give her as one. I get a lot of ideas from friends so they finally gave me that description and told me that it's my person so yeah. Okay that's it. ON WITH THE STORY! evil smirks
Disclaimer: I will own InuYasha and co. when monkeys in pink penguin suits doing the cha-cha while they take over the world. Mind you even then I probably wouldn't own it until I became one of those monkeys. Off of that topic I own all my own characters and InuTaisho's personality; it's my dad's.
Chapter 1-Underestimating a Warrior."What the hell is going on here?" Everybody turned to see Sesshoumaru walk into the room with Kagome quietly standing behind him.
All the yelling had stopped and they were eerily quiet,
"Well?" Sesshoumaru asked impatiently.
"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO KAGOME!" InuYasha started to rant on and on about nothing in particular getting completely off of the topic, Sesshoumaru lifted one of his eyebrows in question. The inu-tachi got the hint and Sango tried to get InuYasha's attention
"InuYasha."
"InuYasha"
"InuYasha"
"INUYASHA!"
"WHAT?"
"Kagome's right there." Sango pointed behind Sesshoumaru. InuYasha whirled around and looked. Then he stared in open mouth shock.
"Good way to catch flies" a girl jumped down from the 3rd floor. Landing gracefully beside Sesshoumaru.
She had long silver hair down to her ankles with neatly cut bangs; it was randomly streaked with white and navy streaks (A/N: nah… sarcasm). She had pale white skin that brought out the darkest blue eyes that held a cold yet caring fire. On her face she had six stripes: two navy, two white and two silver. A navy crescent moon with a silver light symbol (A/N: that would be a little circle with 4 diamonds in the cardinal directions and 4 ovals in the intermediate directions). She had the same pattern of stripes on her wrists ankles and waist. On her shoulders was the same pattern as well, except on her back they connected in a "v". She was wearing a long dress that had no straps but did have two slits up to her hips on the sides. It had white and silver crescent moons embroidered into the fabric. On her arms were slip-on navy sleeves with the same pattern. It screamed elegance and grace.
She turned calmly and grabbed Kagome's wrist pulled her forward as InuYasha stared and then lightly shoved her towards her friends. Kagome walked over the rest of the way and stood beside Sango watching quietly like something had shocked her.
"How the hell would you know?" InuYasha snapped after he finished gawking at her.
"Experience." The one word answer made everyone burst out laughing,
"You mean to say that you've swallowed a fly doing that?"
"No but InuYasha did." Sesshoumaru cut in, deciding to take hold of the situation. All of the inu-tachi gave him a look (A/N: you know the one) except InuYasha; he opened his mouth slowly and a fly flew out.
"I told you so." The girl walked over to Sesshoumaru and whispered something into his ear that sounded suspiciously like aren't you forgetting about something or people upstairs?
"Ah good point," He whispered quietly, "This Sesshoumaru must get going. Go get a servant to give them some rooms in the west wing, I'll explain everything at dinner because I have some things to do at the moment"
Sesshoumaru turned away not even giving the girl a second glance. She growled glaring at him lightly and turned back to facing them scoffing irritably something about him being a real son of a bitch but no one could be sure.
"Okay um… I'm no servant so you people have to go find the toad or something because I really have to be at that meeting." She turned away then did a retake "By the way, I'm Kari Konoko Mononoke." She nodded her head slightly to them and left jumping effortlessly back up to the 3rd floor.
"Okay, weird much?"
The group anonymously agreed with Sango.
"Okay then, let's go find the toad" InuYasha lifted his nose up and ran down one of the many halls leading from the entrance way"
Kari ran down the hall at a speed faster than light, growling irritably about taiyoukai that need to learn who is the royalty that they're supposed to be conferencing with. She stopped when she reached a door with a beautiful carving of a shiro inu youkai howling at the crescent moon.
It opened up soundlessly when she pushed it. She slipped into the room and sat down at the table with all the others there.
In the room there were five other people of her type (you'll find this out in a minute but she's actually above them in status) of status, 3 servants and two military generals; one of which was hers. She was the only female in the room that wasn't a servant.
The people in the room were Sesshoumaru, Lord of the Western Lands; InuTaisho (okay this is two opposite parts of his title in the past shows but he isn't referred to as anything else so that is his name here), Sesshoumaru's Father and Ex-Lord of the Western Lands; Wong –Chi (MINE), the Military Advisor for the Emperor of China; Someyongguy (sOm-yOng-guy)(ALSO MINE), Wong-Chi's gay brother and Lord of the Eastern Lands; and last but definitely the least Naraku the Murdering Lord of the Northern lands.
The military advisors were Kaki (MINE TOO), Kari's military advisor that she didn't need but had anyways, and Juromaru (he's a dip-shit and ugly) Naraku's military advisor.
Kaki was slightly taller than Kari's 5'9", he had long blood red hair down to his waist he had dark brown skin. He was wearing a red haori and black silk hakama.
"Okay, since you people are only arguing, may I inquire as to why?" Kari interrupted after several minutes of studying the people in the room. They all turned to look at her questioningly. Kaki just sat there smirking with the look of "I know something you don't know" on his face.
InuTaisho gave her a questioning look, "What makes you think you have the right to speak girl?"
At this point Kaki burst out in uncontrollable laughter. Kari raised an eyebrow. Kaki just pointed to himself then Kari twice then continued to laugh.
"I fail to see what is funny." Kari looked incredibly pissed off. Kaki saw the look in her eye and immediately got a grip on himself.
"Sorry, milady. It seems there is a mix up and that the lords seem to think I'm you."
Kari scoffed. "They should really find out more about the people that are visiting them, I could be an assassin sent to kill them for all they know."
The people in the room stared at her quietly. Naraku was the first to talk again,
"You mean to say that you're the unmated Ruler of Light City and at this point in time, and control of all of the Orient?"
"I won't believe it! It's a disgrace! Impossible! A female! A little girl!" Wong-Chi screeched, pitching a fit.
"Do you have a problem with that?" Kari narrowed her eyes dangerously. The two men where instantly quiet.
"I don't think they do, because I highly doubt that they would be quiet right now if they did; but I on the other hand do." Sesshoumaru whispered, "A female, let alone a girl shouldn't lead a whole country. Females are incompetent, have no honour and wouldn't know how."
"Are you challenging me?" Kari was lying on her stomach stretched out lazily. She turned her head slightly to the right.
"Yes." Sesshoumaru looked her straight in the eyes she didn't flinch at his look nor did she move.
"I accept,"
"What?" was whispered in the back round, "the girl's insane."
Kaki's smirk got wider; he knew what was going to happen. His Lady would beat the crap out of the Western Lord. The said Taiyoukai stood up gracefully,
"You must have a death wish, but you are to follow me to the dojo, the challenge will commence there."
Kari waved him off uncaringly, "I'll see you there. I don't make a habit of walking behind people."
Kari stood up just as gracefully as Sesshoumaru did and walked out of the room. Kaki, a bit slow on the uptake, jumped up as she left the room, "WAIT UP MILADY!" and ran out after her.
Sesshoumaru grinned evilly, a grin that promised pain. Then he walked out and went in the opposite direction Kari went.
The people left in the room looked at each other. Someyongguy spoke up,
"I have to see this." He ran out with everyone following him except InuTaisho.
"That girl is more than she seems or she's just stupid. I think one of those two are in for the beating of their life."
InuYasha and the other were dreadfully lost in the garden maze where Jaken had left them to "go find their rooms" after that it had closed in on them and they were now trying to find a way out. (Stupid yes, but I needed to update you people on what they were doing)
Kari stood in the threshold of the dojo waiting for Kaki to catch up, 'damn he's slow'. After five minutes of waiting Kari gave up and went in, 'He must have gotten lost. Oh well, I'll look for him later'.
Kari walked to the centre of the dojo and sat down to meditate until when the other got there.
Sesshoumaru had found the girl's military advisor and brought him along. Now he was regretting it. He growled irritably, the girl's military advisor who was walking behind him, was muttering about random things like how he had horrible security and how he didn't know what he was in for with "milady". Sesshoumaru growled again, 'How did the girl stand him? He never shut up!' (In case you readers haven't figured it out yet the '' is thoughts or later it will be used to show telepathy as well) He turned around yet another corner to see the doors of the dojo, open and the wards gone, 'what the hell? I made those wards myself, no person outside of my castle should be able to get through with out getting zapped, unless they're more powerful than my generals, then they could break them without even trying. Oh shit. '.
Sesshoumaru tensed quickly and cautiously entered to the dojo. In the centre of the floor he saw "the girl" meditating. 'Well let's see how alert she really is'. He ran up using his youkai speed and released his acid whip on to where her back would be, if she had still been there.
"It's not nice to sneak up behind people and attack them, you know?" came a feminine voice from behind him, "You could hurt somebody." A second later he was sailing head first into the wall.
Sesshoumaru flipped around and hit the wall feet first, rolling on to the ground. Kari appeared in front of him,
"Having fun, Puppy?" Sesshoumaru growled low in his throat. Kari heard it and smiled in satisfaction; he launched himself at her,
"I am not a puppy." He snarled angrily. Kari knew that he wasn't a puppy in the least but she wanted to get him back for saying that she was incompetent because she was a girl. She was also fully aware he was going to launch himself at her. She set it up and she kicked him back into the wall.
The group of people burst into the dojo in time to see Sesshoumaru hit the wall and Kaki burst out laughing.
Kari heard a large amount of laughter and glanced over to the side to find the source. Kaki. 'Okay, that is over doing it.' She waved in his general direction,
"Silence" Kaki's mouth made no noise as he laughed. He stopped and looked around in shock, his eyes widening to plate size proportions. He fell to his knees and cried silently.
"That is interesting," Kari whirled around to see Sesshoumaru behind her. He bared his neck to her in submission and lightly kissed Kari's lips. "Oh and by the way, I yield."
Kari narrowed her eyes in suspicion and moved up on to her toes to brush her lips against his jaw. Sesshoumaru used this to tear his claws threw her stomach injecting poison into her system. He ruthlessly shoved her away to see her land on her feet.
"That is dirty." Kari stated flatly. Running her finger over the wound carefully, it went all the way threw her back.
"Ah, but it worked." Sesshoumaru raised a single finger as if he was scolding her.
"To do what?" Kari asked as the wound disappeared and the fabric of her dress rewove itself. His eyes widened, 'That would have killed any youkai or human'.
"Yet again, you're jumping to conclusions, puppy. For I am neither a youkai or human" Kari's eyes glittered in mocking.
InuTaisho who had been watching the whole exchange decided to save his son some embarrassment, "Then what exactly are you?"
"Yes, prey tell." Sesshoumaru's lips narrowed in irritation as his eyes hardened.
"First off I'm nobody's prey and second, what makes you think I'll tell you what I am?" Kari took several steps back and turned away from them to look the amazing display of weapons on the wall. She lazily trailed her fingers of some of them: twin katana, the sai, a set of saka bato and some others.
Sesshoumaru looked at Kari studying her closely. She was definitely wasn't human with her hair colour and now that he looked she also had pointed elf ears and delicate looking silver claws; the colouring showed that they held some form of poison. He would pass her off as a youkai but she didn't have any youki.
"I'll offer you a proposition," Sesshoumaru decided he'd figure this out one way or another,
"It depends on what it is," Kari looked at him, "Do honestly think I'm a fool and would accept some thing without knowing what it is?" She turned her head to the right again, a distinctly primal and canine movement.
" Do you really want me to answer that?" a few of the other men chuckled at that. A glare from Kari shut them up, reminding them of what she did to Kaki.
"You may if you wish, but there really is no need to." She shrugged it off like it was nothing.
"Then yes, I do" was the snotty reply.
"You're lying," Kari said in a singsong voice, "I'm a telepath. I'd know."
"Really?" Someyongguy questioned rhetorically, "Prove it"
'Prove what? That you're a fool?' Kari's voice echoed in everyone's head, 'That's easily done'
InuTaisho smirked at the girl's defiance; she was really persistent.
"Now I believe you said something about a proposition?" Kari turned back to Sesshoumaru.
"Yes," Sesshoumaru grinned and revealed his fangs. Kari took a step back, something about his fangs creped her out. "If you can beat me in a sword fight you must tell me or do anything that I ask for."
"A bit over confidant aren't you?" Kari asked.
"I don't think so. Now you may use any weapon or set of weapons on that wall" He pointed to the wall with weapons Kari had been looking at.
"Do you accept?"
"Yes, but one question. What makes you think you will win?"
"Females aren't allowed to learn how to wield weapons nor are they allowed to be taught how to."
"That is only here." Kari said.
"Suuuure. Pick your weapon."
Kari turned to the wall again and looked at all the weapons, near the top a certain set caught her attention' It was a silver set of saka bato, a twin set, with a cross blade sheath (the one that crosses on one's back) it was engraved with two inu-youkai in their true form. She jumped into the air but didn't get high enough so she landed lightly and took a step back, then she jumped again and in mid-air a navy set of wings sprouted from her back and she flew up high enough to grab them then landed back on the ground, her wings disappeared once she hit the ground.
"These ones." Kari held them out so that everyone could see them.
"Are you sure?" Sesshoumaru eyed the blades eerily, they were some of the hardest swords to wield, and even he hadn't mastered them yet.
"Yes."
"You do know what these are right?" He was beginning to doubt her sanity, not that he was sure of it when she accepted his challenge.
"Yes." Kari snapped impatiently, "They're a twin set of engraved silver saka bato."
Sesshoumaru's eyebrows went up past his bangs in shock; not many youkai men knew the names of these types of swords, forget the human men.
"I'm going to assume you want some one to help you put it on?"
"Yes, I know how but it's difficult to do without help, unfortunately." Sesshoumaru was surprised yet again; only a person that knew how to use them would know that.
"I'll help." Kari narrowed her eyes at him again.
"What makes you think that I come even close enough to trust you to touch me et alone help me put a set of blades on my back?"
"Why don't you equip his weapon/weapons then? A trust of each others honour?" InuTaisho suggested calmly.
"Fine by me." Sesshoumaru agreed.
"I thought you said females have no honour?" Kari asked, suspicious once again.
"Prove me wrong." Sesshoumaru looked at her, daring her to disagree.
Kari nodded slowly. Sesshoumaru took that as an 'I will' and walked over to the wall himself, he grabbed a katana made of youkai bones; it was called Tokijin (sp?). Kari immediately sensed the evil aura coming from it and growled silently at his choice. InuTaisho took the time to note that she had fangs because he was sure his son would like to know that piece of information.
"You put this on first, it's my personal sword Tokijin, call it an act of good faith." Kari eyed the sword eerily as she put the blades she choose inside their sheathes. She placed them on the ground and walked over to Sesshoumaru who had moved closer to her. She took the sword from his outstretched hand and bit her bottom lips as it burned threw the cloth covering her hand and then burning viciously threw her skin.
Sesshoumaru looked at her hand carefully, it was the aura of the sword that was burning threw her skin, the evil spirit in it was completely subdued by her power, even if he couldn't see her aura, he could tell he had under estimated her power as one person. It rivalled his own. He watched as she struggled with herself not to cry out, it was then that he noticed that she had fangs, ones that were like his, vampire like. And they were sharply biting into her lip, drawing blood.
The coppery smell of blood never reached his senses like it should, and her hand was now bleeding, more than enough blood to create a scent. (Okay just so the readers know this all happened in a matter of seconds). Sesshoumaru watched as she used her good hand to loosen his intricately tied obi. She walked around behind him and nudged his arms. (Yes arms, I don't care that he doesn't have two arms, in the anime or manga, he's still Sesshoumaru with or with out the one so it doesn't matter, the fight with InuYasha still happened though, but he was badly injured blah, blah. Okay? It just fits better this way) He knew what she wanted but felt like being a prick,
"Do you want something?"
Kari closed her eyes and growled warningly at him. Sesshoumaru just ignored her, closing his eyes.
"Hold your arms up or I'll hurt you." Hissed Kari.
"Is that a threat?" Sesshoumaru teased
"No, it's a promise." Kari lifted her uninjured hand and purifying powers engulfed it.
The people on the sidelines drew a sharp breath as they felt the air around them be purified of their youki.
Sesshoumaru got the hint finally and silently lifted up his arms, Kari looked at her hand debating if she should put the sword on him with the powers active. While she stood there debating, Sesshoumaru gave an uneasy look over his shoulder. Kari decided against it figuring that she would at least be more mature than the "puppy". The powers dissipated and she continued with what she was supposed to be doing.
Kari instantly remembered something, 'I don't know what hand he uses'.
"Which hand do you use?" Kari questioned annoyed.
Sesshoumaru was shocked, he expected her just to put it on with out asking, like an amateur swordsman. 'I really should stop under estimating her, it just ends up shocking me.'
"Both, as a good swordsmen should." Sesshoumaru decided a test was in order.
"Yes they should but most don't realize it, especially with the humans I deal with daily, it is better to ask. Now which hand are you going to use?" Kari knew what he was trying to do. Find out if she really knew her stuff
"It depends, how good are you?" Sesshoumaru smirked as Kari looked at him with the "do you really think I'm that stupid look?"
"It depends on your opinion," Kari dodged the answer as if she'd answered it a million times before.
"Then I guess I have no choice but to say the right." 'Try that on for size girl' Sesshoumaru thought.
"Right what?" Kari rolled her eyes 'Get on with it already.' She mentally whined.
"I'll use my right hand, what else is there?" Sesshoumaru snarled, 'Ha ha. Try that on for size'
"Your right hip dumb ass." Kari snarled back, "I'm attaching a blade, not interviewing you, so why the hell do you think I asked?"
Sesshoumaru was uneasy at the way she was talking to him; it was almost as though she was …in pain. 'Oh shit' he thought, 'I forgot'.
"Just put on the damn sword already."
"I've been trying to do that." Kari growled.
She ducked under his left arm and slid the sword easily into place holding it there she wrapped her injured hand in the left over fabric of the sleeve and put the injured hand on the other side of him (like a hug around his waist from behind) and fixed his obi. She pulled away from him as quickly as she could and sat down cross-legged to look at her hand.
Kari took off the fabric she had put around it as not to get Sesshoumaru's clothing bloody. It was burned down to the bone and bleeding heavily. Kari took her good hand and licked it a little. A scent suddenly surrounded her. She had released the seal. She smelt of vanilla, strawberries and something that took a minute for all the males to identify, fertility and innocence. She was ready to have a pup yet she was a virgin.
InuTaisho's eyes widened in realization, he knew what she was. He laughed quietly and watched the other males, her scent wouldn't affect him, Someyongguy or Wong-Chi, they had mates; everyone else it would.
One thing spoiled her scent tough, it was tainted with the coppery scent of blood.
Sesshoumaru watched closely as Kari sniffed her palm, and then she cursed under her breath. He walked over to her and crouched down in front of her, 'God, she smells even better up close' his hakama got tighter but he ignored it.
"What's wrong?" Sesshoumaru queried
"I can't heal this at the moment. That's what's wrong." Kari glared at Tokijin muttering obscenities about the evil sword. Sesshoumaru chuckled lightly.
"I fail to find the humour in this situation once again. It hurts." Kari gave Sesshoumaru a pointed look.
"And what does your spit have to do with that?" Sesshoumaru watched as Kari licked her lip and it healed. Her saliva had healing properties. Like his own.
"So why don't you heal your hand that way?"
"It's poisoned at the moment and before you ask I'll explain." Sesshoumaru shifted so that he was sitting cross-legged and waited for her to start.
"Okay. As you've probably noticed, I have poison claws, right?" A nod answered her question, " well, I also have poison in my fangs that counters the poison in my claws. I don't have an antidote so at the moment I have a problem, when I bit my lip I accidentally released the poison into my mouth and my saliva, there fore tainting it's healing properties. I can't heal it by my magic because my magic won't counter it without destroying Tokijen so at the moment so I can't heal my hand and IT HURTS!"
Kari slumped slightly and stuck out her lip in a slight pout. All the people in the room were silent for a moment and then they burst out in laughter. Kari just pouted more.
After a few minutes everyone calmed down. Sesshoumaru was smiling slightly in the end but quickly wiped it off his face.
"If you let me I can heal it for you." Sesshoumaru offered, "On one condition,"
"What?" Kari groaned slightly at his antics.
"It won't hurt you I assure you but you'll have to wait until after dinner to find out.' Kari looked at him her eyes filled with pain,
"You're doing this on purpose. But I accept,"
"I wouldn't do that." Kaki blurted out.
"When did I start listening to you?" Kari quipped snidely.
"Never."
"Then what makes you think I'll listen now?"
Silence was the answer. 'How was he able to talk?' Sesshoumaru wondered.
'He was concerned for me so that over rid the spell, it wasn't that strong to begin with' Kari informed him telepathically. Kari held out her hand to Sesshoumaru who took it gently and held it up to his lips. He caught Kari's gaze and kept it. Then he began to lick her cut. He made sure that he didn't hurt her and carefully calculated each one to try to arouse her. It didn't work but by the time he finished she was smiling lazily,
"Thank you," Kari whispered, "Puppy." She smirked playfully and did a back flip into a standing position by her blades.
"I don't think I know any one that has called my son that and lived to tell about it." InuTaisho commented dryly.
Sesshoumaru launched himself at and she jumped to side. Expecting her to do that he sent his acid whip behind him. Kari knew he'd expect that move from her so she dropped as soon as she dodged and waited for Sesshoumaru to turn around. When he did she kicked his legs out from underneath him, then straddled his waist, and pinned his arms above his head.
"Now, now puppy. Play nice and I believe you have something else you're supposed to be doing, ne?" Kari jeered.
"Unfortunately, for you yes" Sesshoumaru's eyes glinted evilly.
"How is it unfortunate for me?" Kari asked
"You have to let me up." Sesshoumaru said simply.
"Ah but you're not allowed to attack me," Kari shot
"There are other ways to torture a person" the glint came back into his eyes.
"Pfft," Kari released him and stood up.
Kari took a few steps away to give Sesshoumaru space to move and picked up her weapons. Sesshoumaru took his time getting up; in his mind he was carefully planning his revenge on the girl he still hadn't gotten a name on. 'I still don't know her name, weird.' He grasped the weapons lightly and Kari waited for him to get a better grip before letting go. He grasped them tighter and she released them to him willing.
Sesshoumaru walked around her and placed the sheaths in the centre of her back,
"Is this okay?"
"A little lower, puppy." Kari replied airily. Sesshoumaru lowered it slightly,
"Good?"
"Yep." Kari spaced out her feet and placed her hands on her hips giving Sesshoumaru room to tie on the straps. Sesshoumaru trailed his hands along her body as he brought the straps around her waist; Kari tensed as she felt his hands on her.
'That is unnecessary my friend' Kari warned him.
'In whose opinion?' Sesshoumaru asked
'This is your idea of torture? Kami help me.' Kari told him sarcastically.
'It's just beginning'
Sesshoumaru smirked as he pressed up against her, she could feel the effect she had on him and it wasn't reassuring in the most.
InuTaisho watched interested as his son tried his luck on the girl in front of him in ways that would have most demonesses and female women at his feet. Kari stood there stiff but unaffected other than discomfort at the forward touches on her person.
'A bit bold aren't you, puppy?' Kari growled in Sesshoumaru's mind
'There is more things that I can do to you and trust me, they're worse, much worse' Sesshoumaru chuckled back.
'I am happy to tell you that I have no interest in finding out what they are,' Kari sang
'Who said you had a choice?' Sesshoumaru smirked into the junction between her neck and shoulder where him head was currently resting. Kari's muscles tensed even more. He licked the spot lightly and gave it a few nips; Kari uncomfortable with his actions released a bolt of purifying energy throughout her body over her skin.
Sesshoumaru growled in pain as he jumped away. Kari glared at him, a dangerous look that promised death if he came any closer,
"I think you've done quite enough Sesshoumaru." Kari quickly fastened what was left of the straps and adjusted it to her satisfaction. When she finished she lightly traced the spot where her neck and shoulder met, the place where a mating marks for youkai and her people would go.
She turned away and took a few steps. She turned back to face him. She drew the blades that sat backwards in her hands until she flipped them into their rightful positions, the tips of the blades facing the back. She then got into a fighting stance with her right hand over her head elbow pointing at Sesshoumaru as well as the tip of the blade and her left hand tilted across her body in a block.
Every person in the room stared in awe at the ease in which she used to control the blades and the way she knew how to start the play.
(Since I haven't explained this yet, saka bato, Kari's weapons at this point, are swords with blades on backwards and not many people ever knew how to wield these difficult weapons properly. I have a limited knowledge on this subject so please forgive me if anything is incorrect. If any of you readers know who know a good deal on this subject it would be nice for some input though I may not use it)
Sesshoumaru recovered quicker than the others because he gave up on getting surprised, she was full of them to begin with.
"Let's do this." He drew Tokijin ad the battle began.
Kari stood there obviously not willing to be the first to move or attack. Sesshoumaru, never liking to be on the defence, took the initiative and raced at her head on jumping to the right of her at the last second at a speed humans wouldn't be able to follow. She turned quickly to face him and blocked the upward arc of Sesshoumaru's blade. She made the timely block into a counter attack and drove Sesshoumaru back to a distance in which he couldn't reach her with the blade itself.
Sesshoumaru understanding what she was trying to do used Tokijin's magical attack
(The red crosses, I dunno what the name is) to see if she'd anticipated that. Kari, knowing he had to have an attack o that sort was prepared for it. She tossed her blade into the air and sent a small burst of purifying connection power towards the incoming flames. As her weapons came back down she grabbed them (properly) and created an "x" block just in time to stop her opponent from slicing her in half. Kari shifted the blades so that one of them covered Sesshoumaru's attack and jabbed the other into Sesshoumaru's stomach. She twisted the top blade to the puppy's wrist and made a slice deep enough to slacken his hold on the sword, she then knocked the blade out of his hand and swept his feet out from under him. Straddling him she made he purifying powers surrond her blade just enough to cause a bit of pain.
"Do you yield?" Kari asked
"No."
"May I ask why not?"
"What makes you think that you have enough purifying energy to purify me completely?" Sesshoumaru asked bored. Kari tired of Sesshoumaru's games put enough purifying power into her blade to purify him to dust as soon as she thought it.
"What about now?"
Sesshoumaru looked at her wearily, "I don't believe you'd kill me, so, no"
"Why not?"
"You're a little girl that knows how to wield a sword and has a good deal of honour. I accept that now but I highly doubt you'd kill me, you know nothing of death, destruction or the harsh things in life. So why would you have the heart to kill?"
"Fine be that way. Good-bye puppy." Kari released her powers through out his body and Sesshoumaru turned to dust.
InuTaisho looked on sadly at where his son had lain. He had let his ego get in the way of seeing just how powerful the girl was. He watched solemnly as Kari collected the ashes in one pile. He saw Kaki shake his head slightly and walk up to the girl.
Kari looked at where the TaiYoukai had lain. She was feeling rather lazy and didn't want to pick out another ruler for the Western Lands nor did she want the hanyou, InuYasha to take over so she started to collect the ashes when Kaki came over.
"Milady if I may?"
"You may but I'm not going to do what you say." Kari replied. Kaki sighed.
"He deserved that you know. And you shouldn't have to revive him; it was his fault. I am just warning you." Kari gave him a look that said, "Do I care?"
InuTaisho watched closely as the two conversed slightly but nothing seemed to change the girl's mind and she continued to collect the ashes. He quickly decided that it wasn't her job to such a thing and started to towards Kari.
"InuTaisho worry not Milady will do no harm. I assure you." Kaki had stepped in front of him, blocking his way.
"It is not her place to have to collect my son's ashes. It was his foolishness that destroyed him. InuTaisho stated.
"I am not giving the ashes to you InuTaisho, I am giving you your son." Kari's voice drifted over from where she was standing, "It is not his time and hopefully he will learn from this."
InuTaisho narrowed his eyes; he would not have this Lady desecrate his son's honour by not returning his ashes to him for the family grave.
Kari picked up a handful of the ashes and brought them up to her lips,
"One would is made of flesh and bone;
One who is honourable and trustworthy?
This one may not be both but,
That does not deny one's perfection as one's self.
Sesshoumaru, Son of InuTaisho, and Lord of the West.
You are not yet ready for the end of life,
It is not your time.
Awaken this moment and see your mistakes,
For they shall not be repeated.
And see the one responsible for your forgiveness,
The one who was your executioner,
But is now your life.
Arashi, Oniki, Oni.
This Kari Konoko Mononoke commands you to arise.
Now."
Kari blew the ashes into the air above the rest and a flash of light filled the room and every one closed their eyes. Once it disappeared they slowly opened them and got used to the lighting left over. A shock awaited them for Sesshoumaru stood in front of them fully clothed in his own flesh and blood.
"H-how?" InuTaisho stammered looking at his on as he approached Kari.
" I am an Untouchable Half-Breed Angel. I am able to give life or take it away as you've seen but, I will not do this for him again. No one questions my honour or the fact that I have not seen war and destruction. I grew up with it. I can kill without a thought but it doesn't make it right and The West has an excellent ruler at this point, I don't see a real reason to find him unacceptable other than the fact that he is an asshole with a stick up it."
Kari gave him a final look and turned away and walked out of the dojo dodging around the inu-tachi as she left, concealing her scent as she moved.
(Okay, backing up in time a bit this is InuYasha and the others. They don't really have a role in this at the moment because I can't find them a place in the script so they will come in once and a while but usually you will not hear about them)
InuYasha and the other finally found the way out of the maze and headed towards the place InuYasha said he smelt his half-brother, the dojo as they finally reached it they saw Kari walk out and disappear into thin air as she went to turn the corner. Walking in they saw all the occupants of the room in utter shock except for one of them that had the same symbol as was on Kari's forehead on the right sleeve of his haori. His expression was one of dismay and malice.
"Oi! What got you all looking like your trying to catch flies?" InuYasha asked not caring whom the people he was talking to were.
"If you really must know brother your stench is unbelievable and we were shocked at your unclean mannerisms in our presence. Answer your question?" Sesshoumaru stated, taking on his emotionless persona.
"Feh! As if I care what you and your stuck up friends think." InuYasha snarled
"Well them I suppose a lesson is in order. When you stink, you offend my senses so here take a bath."
Kari walked in nonchalantly as a huge amount of water materialized over InuYasha head and dumped down on him and disappeared before it hit the ground leaving no trace but a soaping wet inu-hanyou.
"May I ask why you're back here milady?" Kaki asked looking completely innocent.
"No you may not because I'm going to tell you anyway." Kari walked up to Kaki and started to walk around him like an animal would it's prey or as an intimidation technique, "I'm pretty sure you know though. I have been informed that there was a traitor in palace and I've found out who it is." Kaki started to back up, " Yes, I suppose you'd know about that though, wouldn't you?" Kari's voice got progressively sweeter, "After all it is you." Kaki's eyes widened to plate size proportions once again. He bolted but never made it out of the dojo because Kari had beaten him to the entrance and threw him back into the dojo,
"You do remember the penalty for traitors don't you? After all you are the one who suggested it."
"Milady, I assure you that my loyalties have never swayed from my leader." He was shivering up and down in fear.
"Indeed, they never strayed from Clowreed. The man that is at this moment holding Light City ransom."
"For what?" Kaki was genuinely interested because he was never told. Kari took a leap across the room and leant her lips to his ear in a seductive manner.
"He wants me to become his whore." She hissed into his ear. Kari licked the shell of his ear and waited for the shivers that went down his spine.
"Good-bye. Shal'vac." Kari said to his face. A second later he was gone, not even dust was left over.
"That and I forgot to give back the weapons I borrowed." She offhandedly wave towards her back where the weapons laid. She hadn't even touched her advisor and he'd ended up dead.
Sesshoumaru walked up to her and looked her in the eye,
"Since your lands are being held at ransom at the moment you no longer have superiority but, have no intention of attacking you. I am asking for forgiveness and if you'd let me release you of your blades."
Kari looked back at him and saw nothing but honesty, " I forgive you and yes you may." She turned and lifted her arms completely away from her body. Sesshoumaru walked around behind her and quickly released her of the weapons with expert hands.
"Thank you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some business to attend to. I'll be back in a few hours at most." Kari tilted her head slightly towards the people and disappeared.
"How did she…" Wong-Chi started, "You know what, I'm not going to ask, she obviously is way too confusing to figure out so I'm going to stop trying.
"Same here but what I want to know is if she just went to get her lands back from this Clowreed character, by herself."
They all looked at each other and raced outside. Once they got there they came out in time to see Kari come crashing back down from a huge thing that looked like a floating city. (Which it was). A sickening crack made they're stomachs lurch as she ht the ground.
Kari groaned as she heard the crack, she had broken her wing in several places, "Baka." She grumbled. Sesshoumaru appeared on the edge of the crater she was in,
"Need a hand?" He held his out and she grabbed it, allowing him to pull her up. Sesshoumaru walked around behind her and took a good look at her wings, they were navy but they had white or silver outlines on each feather. One of them was also hanging at an odd angle; he just realized that it was broken. He reached out and put the bones inline line without a word. Kari didn't make a sound but she whirled around seconds after she realized what he had done and got over the pain.
Kari opened her mouth as if she was going to scold him but closed her mouth and shock her head dejectedly, she wouldn't scold him for the help. She nodded in thanks and jumped back into the air and flew up to the city again.
This time when she came back down a man in navy blue robes was with her. He was forcing himself onto her harshly and had her lips captures with his and Kari was fighting every bit. Kari got her hands free and sent a blast of fire at him. He backed away from her while Kari spit into his face.
Her clothing was in tatters as if someone had tried to rip the off of her but they covered what was necessary, barely.
Kari summoned a sword that looked eerily like Tokijin and attacked the male. He disintegrated into dust leaving behind a doll that fell to the ground. Kari landed beside it and cut it in half.
"Teme, he goes and tries to take over MY lands and make ME his whore and he sends a puppet." Kari looked disgusted. Taking notice of her state of dress at that moment and she automatically changed into a white tube top, a navy set of hakama and slippers. Around her waist was a silver obi tied at the side.
"Before you say anything, I'll tell you this, I like these clothes, they're comfortable and at the moment I don't care if you don't approve, I have superiority again and I will do what I want to." Kari looked at each of them in turn, daring them to argue with her,
"Good" She looked at Sesshoumaru and pointed, "You come with me. Now."
She walked away leading the way threw the castle as if she had lived there all her life. When she finally stopped they were at the hot springs,
"There is a time barrier on Light City because it usually shifts threw different dimensions in reality I was up there for about 16 hours and I got injured. I need your help to heal it but I don't want you to get the wrong idea out of this. Understood?"
"He raped you. Didn't he? And you can't heal it because he was so rough and is a dark creature." Sesshoumaru eyed Kari looking for any sign of discomfort. She looked guiltily at the floor and pain reflected in her eyes, she was disgraced that she let the man get rein over her body like she was some common whore.
"Do not be ashamed or disgraced, you did what you had to, to save your people and you did not give into him; otherwise you wouldn't be injured. I would be honoured to help you out and I understand why you're allowing me to touch you in such a way a lover might and that it just because you seem to find me best for this job."
Kari gave him a sad smile, "You know what this requires right?"
"I must lay you to purify your body of its taint then I must cleanse your passage to heal at the wounds I will have made and the wounds of another." Sesshoumaru whispered into Kari's ear reassuring her slightly.
