Title: New Year's Cold

Pairing: KaixRei

Disclaimer: I do not own Beyblade, or Rei or Kai for that matter. I just borrow them on occasion to pacify the evil plot bunnies of dOOm.

The snow swirled around like tiny dancers, partnered with the wind; each following the other in an endless game of follow-the-leader. Bitterly cold and inky black, for the sun had not yet come over the horizon, a wind swept up off the dark, foaming water and over the rock ridge to assault the faces of the two lone figures brave enough to venture out into the late December weather.

Rei snuggled further into his many scarves in attempt to bring some warmth and feeling back into his wind-swept and snow-battered cheeks. Giving forth a small noise expressing his discomfort, he pondered what on earth possessed him to come out into such frigid weather; he didn't ponder on the thought too long though. Rei cast a side-long glance to his right toward the other tightly wrapped-up adventurer. Unlike Rei, Kai didn't feel the bite of the cold so acutely and seemed to feel quite content to continue to stand out on the cliff's edge waiting for the sun to make its first appearance of the New Year.

Kai heard another muffled noise come from Rei's direction. He looked over his shoulder to see the boy, wrapped up like a Christmas present in many layers of coats, gloves and scarves, shivering like a new leaf in a torrential down-pour. Rolling his eyes heavenward, Kai could only guess why Rei had wanted so badly for the pair to be out in the early morning cold when he knew he himself hated it with a passion.

"Rei." At the mention of his name, Rei's head popped up out of its fuzzy refuge in the many layers of wool and polar-fleece. He turned to Kai, a questioning look on his face over the broken silence. "Rei, we can go in if you're cold you know." Though Kai meant well with the statement, his natural inclinment to say everything with an 'it's-so-obvious' tone caused Rei to feel a bit of resentment and stubbornness bubble in the pit of his stomach. Rei shook his head vigorously, quickly shaking the angry feelings; he knew Kai loved it out here and the helpless romantic in him couldn't bear to pull his lover away from something that was making him happy.

"N-no, I'm fine. Perfectly f-fine!" Rei stammered out past slightly chattering teeth. Kai narrowed his eyes to scrutinize the obviously lying other teen before he slowly started to close the space between the two; coming to stand directly in front of Rei (facing him with his back to the water) to block the harsh wind, wrapping his arms around the shivering neko-jin.

"You're sure you're not too cold?" Kai asked, his normally stoic expression betraying a small look of concern. Rei smiled up at Kai from his new position, snuggling in closer to Kai's body heat.

"Definitely not too cold now." Feeling his back beginning to warm, Kai turned both himself and Rei to watch the first sunrise of the New Year, snuggled in the arms of the person he loved most in the world - this was going to be a good year, he could feel it.
