Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter characters. JKR took care of that for me.

Summary: Even though the title says it all, Padfoot is adopted by a sweet little girl.

A/N: Okay…so I think that this is a one shot. But it doesn't have to be. Enjoy!

To All Seeking a Pre-Loved Pet:

Next week at the Magical Menagerie is the chance of a lifetime

to adopt a pet that is pre owned and isn't wanted anymore!

Families that do not want their current pet may bring them and

put them up for adoption

Full responsibility for the pet is kept if it is not adopted

"Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!"

"What, pet?"

"Can we get a pet?"

"Nadine, darling, new pets are a lot of work and are expensive. And you can only adopt an older pet in the Muggle world."

"Not anymore, mommy! Look!"

She held out the flier from the Magical Menagerie.

"What's this? Alright, I suppose we can go to Diagon Alley next Monday and look for a pet for you."

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'll take really good care of it! I promise!"

Meanwhile, in London, a similar flier was in the mouth of a great, shaggy black dog.

Monday morning dawned bright and early as Padfoot made his way to the Leaky Cauldron. With wizards and they're exited children bustling in and out of Diagon Alley, it was easy to slip in. He bounded into the Magical Menagerie, and took his place among other dogs to be adopted.

"What kind of pet would you like, Nadine?"

"A doggy!"

"Are you sure? There are some really cute kitties left."

"No, I want a doggy."

"Alright, sweet. The dogs are over this way."

"Mommy! Look at that one!" Nadine pointed at Padfoot, her eyes glowing.

"Nadine, dear, he looks a little big."

'A little big?' Padfoot thought. 'I'll show her!' And with that, he bounded over to Nadine and began to lick her face.

"Mommy, he's perfect!"

"He certainly likes you. And anyway, he will serve as a good guard dog against that Sirius Black."

'That's right, lady. I like your daughter…Nadine? And damn right I'll serve as a good guard dog against…who? Wait a moment! I can't go around barking like I'm about to jump out of a bush in my usual form! That's just…just…what is WRONG with this woman?'

"Come here, you."

'You. You. You. Damn it. I'm going to have to put up with whatever that little girl names me, too. Crap.'

Nadine and her mother went up to the cash register to adopt the newest addition to their family, or at least Nadine's mother did. Nadine was busy inspecting her new pet. She gazed into his chocolate eyes and thought of her favorite time of day…night.

"Dear?"

Her mother's voice broke through her thoughts.

"Yes, mommy?"

"We have to put a name on the adoption papers. What's his name? He doesn't seem to have been…owned before. He must have been a stray someone brought in."

"Sirius."

"Dear?"

"That's his name. Sirius."

"Why Sirius?"

"Because he reminds me of the constellation. His eyes are all dark like the night sky, but his eyes also have this twinkle like the stars. His name is Sirius."

"Very well, dear."

"Ma'am?" A reporter tapped Nadine's mom on her shoulder. "May I take a picture of your daughter and her new dog for the paper?"

"Of course! Nadine! Smile for the camera. Sirius, look at the camera and try to look happy."

FLASH

"Thanks very much ma'am. And you said her name was…Nadine?"

"Yes, Nadine Green. And the dog is Sirius."

The next morning, at Hogwarts

A shriek echoed through the Great Hall as Hermione unfolded her morning paper. "HARRY! HARRY! Come look at this!"

Harry spit out his pumpkin juice as he looked over Hermione's shoulder. "But what happened to Buckbeak?"

"Oh, Harry, I don't know, but Snuffles was adopted!"

A/N: Ok, so I could probably dredge up another chapter, but if you don't review, there absolutely won't be any more of this story.
