Jinta never really got the reason for all the commotion for New Year's. To him it had always been just another day that marked the fact that he would be a year older by the time it came around again. But that never stopped the rest of the Urahara Shoten denizens from getting into a festive mood, which meant lots of alcohol for the grown-ups, and dragging him along to the closest shrine to make a New Year's wish.
That is how he found himself, despite all protests being dragged through the crowd to the temple to ring the bell and make a wish. Since none of his wishes from previous years came true he was rather disgruntled about the whole event and was relieved when Tessai's hold on him slipped and he was able to get away.
He almost made it out of the teeming crowd when he ran into a familiar face that made his heart skip several beats. "Yuzu!" is all he can get out as he stared dumbfounded at the girl before him.
She looked up at him teary eyed, but still smiled and asked, "Jinta, you're here to make a wish too?"
"Ah, yea," is all he managed to stammer, "Are you ok?"
Yuzu noded her head and said, "I just got separated from my family and was so scared being around so many strangers. But now that you're here I'll be ok."
At those words the redhead felt his heart swell up so much that it felt like it would burst out of his chest. Trying to hide his happiness with a scowl he told Yuzu, holding out his hand, "Well I guess 'cause we both need to make our wishes I'll take you to the bell so you won't get stuck on your own again."
She placed her delicate hand in his and smiled so sweetly, Jinta forgot for a moment where he was. He's brought back to his senses as a group of people pused past him. He then quickly turned around and charged towards the shrine bell at full speed, shoving everyone in his path away while having Yuzu run behind him. Needless to say they got to the bell in record time and while a bit breathless, Yuzu did seem happy, which was all Jinta needed to know.
They both shyly let go of each other's hands and took their turns of ringing the old shrine bell and making a wish for the new year. Though in all honesty all Jinta had wished for was for the past moment to have lasted longer than it did.
He was going to ask Yuzu if she needed his help to get back through the crowd when a familiar voice cut through the air calling for the light brunette. Jinta quickly spotted the spiky orange hair in crowd that went with the voice and knew that it was time for a quick retreat before he began his New Year's in intensive care. So without a word he dashed off leaving the girl to meet up with her older brother and headed on home.
Upon later reflection as he was being subjected to the torture of bad karaoke from a well intoxicated Tessai, it really was his best New Year's yet and hoped that next year would work out as well.
