Heroism
Warnings: uhhh… not for people who like a 'Perfect Harry' image. Unbetaed
Summary: Harry thinks on the truth about it all…
250 words
A Hero. That is what everyone thought of him. But in reality… Harry knew he was anything but. 'Saving lives', 'offering help', and 'fighting darkness'… they weren't heroism at all. Because Harry rarely did it for anyone else.
You see… Harry wasn't selfless at all. For years, he'd been shunned – attention was something he feared, because he was always only focused upon in anger and ridicule. When he went to Hogwarts, however… it was a mind-numbing change. He was not ignored, and was regarded with admiration and awe.
At first, he hated the attention. He was uncomfortable in the light, always expecting the blows to come. But eventually, deep inside – he got used to it. He got used to the star-filled gazes and the giggling whispers. And eventually… he yearned for it. He always said otherwise, but deep inside… Harry Potter was probably as arrogant and attention seeking as Snape accused him of.
You see, Harry loved being 'good'. He revived the childish yearning for praise that had never been fulfilled, and the equally immature envy when the admiration is directed elsewhere. So you see – he didn't do things just because he wanted to help. He was just human, after all – and oftentimes, he hated it. He hated the despicable envy settled in his heart, the surges of anger at accurate accusations and otherwise directed praise.
Sometimes, Harry feared that he was indeed the Dark Lord a few once thought of him – made more evil by his guise of good.
Don't get me wrong, I actually like Harry...
