A/N: Dont mean to toot my own horn but I think this is my best yet. Inspired by Crush by Jennifer Paige. Dont own anything in this story but i wish i did.
Sara Sidle couldn't quite put a name to the feeling she felt when he looked at her, like she was the only thing that mattered.
Or when he gave only her a cup of his special brew
Or how they didn't need words to know what the other was saying, they knew each other that well.
Or how about when he got a girlfriend, hadn't she gone home and cried for hours? Tears of happiness she told herself, but tears of happiness didn't feel that way.
She liked him as a friend that was all, a close friend who she told her deepest, darkest secrets too.
He hadn't run, he hadn't said how awful or pitied her like she knew someone else would.
He'd squeezed her shoulder and told her it was okay to cry.
To let it all out.
She shouldn't be ashamed of what she couldn't change.
He'd shown her the ring he was going to give his Bethany, the next night over dinner.
What had she done after the hour of willing herself not to cry?
She had drunken until she forgot who she was.
He'd asked her about her night, grinning from ear to ear, his obviously had gone well, well hers was hell.
How many times had she picked up the phone to tell him that he was making a mistake, only to replace the phone again and take another drink?
Too many that she lost count.
She finally had to realize that a friend shouldn't feel this way towards another.
She had to face the obvious.
She had a crush, one that he could never know about.
He was happy with someone else.
Content with having her just as a friend.
That's why she accepted to be his best 'woman' and stand up for him.
She really should tell him how she felt, but he didn't need to know so close to the wedding.
The eve of his wedding he caught her crying, and wouldn't let her go until she told him what was wrong.
She finally did tell him, everything she had thought about for the last few months since he mentioned Bethany.
A woman she had despised on spot but went along with it because he was happy.
He had raised her chin with his finger and kissed her forehead.
Rocking her back and forth until she fell asleep, her tears dried up for now.
She didn't hear him make the call that ended all the pain.
There would be no wedding.
His feelings had changed.
His best 'woman' had grown to the best woman he had ever known.
He couldn't deny what he felt when he looked at her.
His best friend had become something more
He couldn't help but smile as he watched her sleep knowing something she didn't.
He couldn't wait to tell her what he knew
That somewhere between the special brew and the late night talks
He'd fallen in love with his best friend.
