Part 1 Fire & Water
"Of all our gifts, of all our powers we are nothing without love." Those words echo in my head as I try to get over all that has happened over the past few days but I doubt I'll ever be able to get over it. My name is Aang and I'm the Avatar, but this story isn't about me it's about a girl I met. Now I'm not the kind of person to be so gloom and doom, far from it! But the story I'm about to write is a sad one and I wish it never happened… Well I guess I should start from the beginning.
We were camping in the Earth nation forest of Tailin on our way to the North Pole so Katara and I could master waterbending. Appa and Momo had gone off to who knows where and Sokka was complaining as usual. It was near morning (We'd been traveling at night to avoid anyone who might be tailing us.) when we heard a scream, pierce the night. It nearly made us jump out of our skins. One word came to my mind, firebenders.
Katara spoke first "What do you think that was?"
I answered "I don't know but we're gonna find out." Sokka grabbed his boomerang and stood up ready to go. We all left the campsite and ran in the direction we heard the scream. As we got deeper into the forest I could hear the sound of a rushing river and eventually I began to catch glimpses of red and orange light through the trees. I began to run at full speed.
"Aang stop! We can't keep up with you!" I heard Katara's voice shout behind me, but I couldn't stop. Someone could be in trouble! I remember thinking. Suddenly I skid to a stop just beyond a clearing where a river ran through the forest. The sun was coming out and I could see that on its bank lay at least twenty firenation soldiers unconscious and in the center of the scene stood one last soldier and… a girl no older than I. She had no weapons except for a long wooden fighting staff.
The girl spoke "Please," she implored, "I don't wish to fight you. You're exhausted and I have no information about the Avatar. As I told you before."
By this time Katara and Sokka had caught up to me and we all watched silently in the shadows. The soldier didn't reply instead he began to create an enormous fireball and threw it at the girl
