Prologue
A young man sleeps on a bed, the thin sheets covering his body. He sleeps soundly, and the morning sun shines down on his face. The bright light makes him sigh, and he opens his eyes. He sits up, and yawns loudly. The young man is a mess. His hair is tangled, a sign that he hasn't used, or even heard of a comb before. As he gets out of his bed, he walks into the bathroom, and starts up his shower. This young man is Andrew Waterman, and he has had a miserable life.
When Andrew was 7, his mother died from a head aneurysm. Before she died, Victor, his father, used to beat his mother every night, even for the smallest things. After she died, Victor began to drink heavily. He was fired from his job at Luthor-Corp, and was always at the local bars, drinking himself stupid. Andrew had to endure all the hardships of his father's drinking problem, and one day, when Andrew was 8, his father started to beat him. He couldn't stop his father, and when Andrew went to Smallville Elementary, he had to come up with many excuses to his teachers about the bruises on his arms and back.
The first day of 6th grade, Andrew met Clark Kent. They were in Gym class and were picked to be on the same dodgeball team. This was also the day that Andrew felt love for the first time. He noticed Whitney Paul, a pretty auburn haired girl, and Andrew felt this feeling run through his body. She noticed him watching her, she smiled, and waved at him. Andrew smiled back, and blushed slightly. Andrew and Whitney became friends, and to Andrew, the happiest moments in his life were when he spent time with her.
Every evening, he had to do all the chores around his house, even when he was 8, he had to make his own dinner, do his own laundry, and clean up the messes his drunken father made. Since then, he has taken care of his house, and has become closer and closer to Whitney, until now. Andrew is now 18. Whitney is his girlfriend, and they love each other very much. She is his entire world, and is the only good thing in his life. Besides Whitney, he has no other friends, no one else cared for him.
Andrew gets out of the shower later, and puts on clean clothes, and gets ready for another day at Smallville High School. He grabs his backpack, and walks out the front door, past the lazy, sleepy body of his father, suffering from another night of drinking.
