(Thunder sound) I shoot up from bed, panting. Suddenly a flash lightening brightened the room and deafening bursts of thunders followed. I clutched my blanket tightly and took deep breaths trying to calm down my racing heart.

Rain lashed against the window as the trees outside swung with the howling wind. Suddenly another clap of thunder echoed in my ears. I quickly pulled my legs against my chest hugging them for comfort while I rocked myself back and forth.

Feeling calm enough, I laid back down. Just before I was going to close my eyes again BANG! I heard a loud noise followed by the sound of breaking glass, coming from downstairs. I quickly sat again. What if a robber broke into the house, what if it was it was a broken tree branch that got smashed into the window? Questions ran through my head, but I know I had to find out what happened.

I slowly scanned the room searching for something to hold as protection. From the corner of my eye I got glimpse of a baseball bat so I slowly rolled out of bed. Shivers greeted me as I stepped onto the cold hard carpet. I tip toed over toward the light switch and quickly flicked it on. As if it was a trigger, lightening and another clap of thunder follow my action. The light twitched and died out.

"Oh man!" I yelled with frustration. Maybe this job wasn't going to be so easy. I cracked the door open just a little bit and peeked out. All I could see was a faint shadow of where everything was. I carefully stepped out, holding my bat in an attack position, ready to hit anything and anyone. I slowly inched towards the stairs while glimpsing around me. As I approached the stairs I stopped, looked around and examined the area carefully before I took a step down. With each step I took I looked around me and I still held the baseball bat firmly in my hands, but it was absolutely silent. By the time I reached the bottom of the stairs I felt fairly relaxed. As I stepped unto the cool wooden floor shivers ran down my back. I paused for a few seconds before carrying on with my search.

The wind continued to howl, rain continued to lash against the window and thunder and lightening still rang in my ears but I pushed them all out. I checked if the front door was locked, inspected the area around it, slid open the closet to check for traces of people, but there wasn't any. I yet out a sigh of relief. I slowly walked down the dark hallway leading towards the kitchen and living room. It was absolutely silent besides the echoes of my own foot steps.

I carefully checked the kitchen, but still nothing was found. By now I was very calm, I'm petty sure that nothing will happen. Just then a draft of wind blew my hair back. I slowly turned my face towards the wind, finding it coming from the living room. I held the bat in my hands, firmly ready to swing. I slowly edged towards the living room. The back window was broken, letting in the draft of cold wind. Glass was shattered all over the floor and the white curtains flowed with the wind. I held my bat high in the air as my heart pounded.

"Ouch!" I felt a sharp pain under my foot and warm blood oozed out of my foot. I quickly squid down to examine it. Suddenly a roar of thunder awoke the silent room. I quickly picked myself up and carefully tiptoed towards the window with my bat in hand. When I was a few feet away I suddenly felt something cold and wet under my feet. I looked down and saw a puddle. Suddenly a hand shot out of the water and wrapped its cold, wet, slimy fingers around my wrist. Is this a hand of a human? I don't know, but for one thing sure I was being pulled. Before I could even start another trail of thoughts everything turned pitch black.
