Goodbye America's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name

There they stood. Everyone. Every one she had ever saved...for the most part, everyone whose life she touched, everyone who'd heard of her, humans and demons alike. She was gone. Buffy…. The name still had such meaning to everyone there. Years of fighting a battle that would ultimately be her demise and she knew it. Handed a cruel fate that could never be changed, a girly 15 year old became the best slayer the world had ever known.

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall you
Along America's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will

When the battle came it was sudden, almost, though it seemed to be what everyone was waiting for in the end. Buffy died saving the world. Again. It never seemed as though the world appreciated it until everyone looked around and saw all the people who attended, being it an open funeral.

Loveliness we've lost
these empty days without your smile
This torch we'll always carry
For our world's golden child
And even though we try
The truth brings us to tears
All our words cannot express
The joy you brought us through the years

Spike, Angel, Dawn, Willow, Xander, Giles, Faith, Andrew, Vi, Rona, all the slayers…the number of them, innumerable, The Immortal, Riley, Sam, Parker, Graham, Harmony, Drusilla, Anne, Illyria, Gunn, Whistler, Oz, Lorne, Clem, Connor, Kate, Nina, Skip, Gwen Radian, Eve, Hank Summers, friends of hers in LA from before she was the slayer, Sophie, Owen, Ethan Rayne, Amy, old foes, the Watcher's Council, employees of Wolfram and Hart. More recognized people. And some no one could name. Well over 500 people came. It was remarkable.

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And your footsteps will always fall you
Along America's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will

They all knew who she was even if they didn't know her personally. She was the reason. For everything. Buffy died young…at 30 it seemed too young. But she knew it was a very long time coming. The greatest slayer that ever lived she was called. Died twice for the cause and never once thought to stop helping the people, saving them all. Never did she give in to the dark side or giving up. She was indeed the golden child.

Goodbye America's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
Goodbye America's rose
From a country lost without your soul
Who'll miss the wings of your compassion
More than you'll ever know

She lived for what she was meant, to save the world and protect humanity. In the process she became the slayer to defy all odds. Her and Spike were married now. Her friends were all safe and loved. That was…peaceful to know. Everyone was happy. She was happy. And she was complete. She never would be forgotten…not by these people, and not by people a million years from now. Most slayers names were never spoken of again. Not this slayer. She will dearly be missed; at first it may seem to some as the world did end with her gone. But that will heal. They'll know she's ok and one day...all of them...yes all. Will see her again. Years from now people will know of Buffy Summers. The legend. The true hero.

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the rain set in
And you footsteps will always fall you
Along England's greenest hills
Your candle's burned out long before
Your legend never will
