Jack pulls the card out of the ATM in disgust. Where did all his money go to? He was sure there was going to be a little more to go around, before he got paid next week. And he didn't really want to do his Christmas shopping on his credit cards; he hated using his credit cards, since that meant he would have to pay it back eventually. His APR was really high, thanks to a couple of missed payments when he was in college. They should not give credit cards out to college students like they were candy.
He could ask his dad to let him borrow some money, but he was 26. He was supposed to be living on his own. He definitely didn't graduate from college just to be borrowing more money from his dad. His dad did him a tremendous favor by paying a lot of his way through college, especially after his first semester when he was still at Boston Bay and decided to become a party boy. He was sure his dad wouldn't mind though, but he felt guilty even thinking of asking.
He is mentally trying to figure out where all his money went as he heads back to his car in the bank parking lot, doing the mental math of subtracting the amount of his bills he paid, and the other stuff he bought in his head, when he smacks into the Sheriff who is towards the ATM.
"Sorry, Doug."
"Its okay, what's wrong, honey? You look distraught?"
Jack is about to say something to him, when he fully comprehends what Doug just said. They had been dating for almost seven months and this is one of the first times that Doug has acknowledged their relationship in public. "Did you just call me Honey?" He quizzes playfully.
Doug kisses him softly on the forehead to acknowledge, but also in a way that said don't make me repeat it right now. "What's wrong?"
"Well…Dear," Jack watches Doug's face for a moment, and Doug doesn't seem to wince like he usually does when Jack calls him something other than Doug or Sheriff in public. He gives Doug a playful smile, and then it turns into a frown as he explains the problem "I'm just trying to figure out where all my money went to. I thought I was going to have a little extra money to do some Christmas shopping, but my bank account is almost non existent."
"It is a good thing I was looking for you then." Doug gives him a grin.
"Why's that?" Jack challenges.
"I was going to ask you something on Christmas Eve, but I decided I couldn't wait the two weeks." Doug grins wider, and he seems really nervous. He glances down at the ground. "I was wondering if you wanted to move into together." He glances up uncertain.
Jack pulls him into a huge hug. "You're so cute coming out of the closet more."
"You didn't answer my question." Doug teases playfully.
Instead of answering, Jack gives him a soft kiss on the lips.
Doug kisses him back softly, and for one of the first times seems uninhibited about showing affection in public.
