Bessie Potter couldn't believe this. She was stuck in a house with 3 teenagers and a woman who condemned her and her family. This was not anyway to give birth. She should be in the hospital, but this stupid Podunk town had only one hospital, and one ambulance. And despite her yelling at the 911 operator earlier, it would still be another hour or so before the ambulance would arrive, if it did arrive. She wanted drugs, and she wanted Bodie by her side. But she wasn't going to get that.
She took a deep breath and wish her life could have lead her anywhere but this spot right now. Here she was 26 about to give birth to her first child, raising her teenage daughter, and getting scorn from the woman in front of her since her boyfriend was black, and her father was a drug dealer.
She loved Bodie though, and was glad she was about to have his baby, but carrying him was beginning to be exhausting. "Ooohhhh.." escapes her lips as she pushes again.
"The Baby's beginning to crown." Mrs. Lindley comments as she squats in front of Bessie.
Jen Lindley stands to the side. "Oh, I can see the baby's head." The 16 year old observes, excited to be witnessing the miracle of life.
"That's it. Your almost there just a little bit longer now. That's it, Dear. That's it, Dear. Just one more little push. Its almost over." Mrs. Lindley's voice is calm as she talks to Bessie, her nurses training coming in handy.
Bessie shakes her head, sweat is pooling down her face. "I can't, I'm too tired."
"Dear, you can and you will."
Bessie is about to protest again when her sister Joey comes in from where ever she had gone with dawson. The sisters exchange a look, and Joey takes a hold of Bessie's hand. As Bessie feels Joey holding her hand, she gets a last bit of strength and knows that everything is going to be okay, and manages to give one final strong push, allowing her new baby to enter the world
