Summary: "If the bastard sent me out to get his grog for him, ill bloody well get the most expensive of the lot." One-shot

"Bloody House…."

Chase's thought's centered upon his misanthropic boss in order to stop thinking abot what lay ahead of him – liquor stores always unnerved him. By the time Chase's thoughts began to turn full circle - as tight as the bond the doctor himself tied around his fellows - Chase was at the entrance of the liquour store. He took a deep breath and powered into the store as he always did - heading for the wine section.

"If the bastard sent me out to get his grog for him, i'll bloody well get 'im the most expensive of the lot." Chase thought as he picked out the most prestigious bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon.

He was in the middle of deciding to get some munchies for himself when Joe, the owner called him over.

"You're Australian aren't you?" The man said, a frown on his features.

"Yes."

"Oh, well then," The man's face brightened, a small smile appearing on his face, "Then i have something that might interest you."

He reached down under the bar and brought out a six-pack of gin and tonics.

Chase's heart skipped a beathis posture got a little more rigid and his mouth went dry – "No - not here!". He could hardly hear the man's explanantions over the loud beating of his heart. " -- and the delivery guy made a mistake, see, he delivered these instead of the crate of Merlot, and i kept a few packets, knowing that -- sir? sir?"

Chase was brought back to reality, by the man gently shaking him.

"I - " Chase tried to explain the unexplainable, but was saved by customer behind him grumbling loudly over the slow service.

"The reminder of home a little too strong?" Joe asked kindly, putting the bottle of wine in a brown paper bag and waiting for Chase to hand over the money, "I kept them for you, 'cos i knew they were Australian, see and i thought -- "

"How much is it?" Chase interrupted, not wanting to dwell on the thoughts of Australia and the life he had tried to escape - the thoughts that were brought on by an inocuous bottle with a yellow label. His hands trembled a bit as he opened his wallet and and blinked in confusion.

Where was all his money? Where was the brightly coloured $5, $10, $20, $50 notes? What was with all the green? It was the customer from before - with a shout of "hurry up!" that saved him from thinking he had lost his mind.

He was in America. Riiight. The notes were green here.

It always took him longer then normal to get back to the present when the unexpected had knocked him back into the past.

He payed, grabbed his bottle of wine with a slightly trembling hand and walked back into the frigid winter air.

House could bloody well get his own grog next time.
