Heyo! This is my first little YGO GX ficlet type thing. This is one of two fics that I wrote today during school! Isn't that smart of me? Hope you like!
The Big Brother I Don't Have
"Syrus."
A small, blue-haired, fifteen-year-old boy turned around upon hearing his name. His silver eyes settled on his addresser before they widened in characteristic surprise.
"Zane? What are you doing here? This is the Slifer dorm." Syrus blinked, thinking hard and mentally browsing through all the possible responses his brother might have or give.
Zane, a stoic young man with blue-green hair, had narrowed his eyes at his younger brother, as if he was displeased with his scrawny sibling. His blue blazer, which indicated superiority over Syrus' red one, rustled with the light breeze. Syrus was looking pointedly at that blazer then back at the slummy dorm building where he lived with the other students of Duel Academy (but only the ones in red blazers).
"Did you want to talk to you," Zane informed him. Syrus' features seemed to droop.
"You came to tell me what a big disappointment I am?" It was no concealed fact among Syrus' friends that Zane was the direct cause of his chronic feelings of inferiority and depressing lack of self-confidence.
"Something like that." Zane looked his brother in the eyes dead-on. "I heard a rumor about you and Jaden."
Syrus groaned. "You believed that?"
"Chazz Princeton was spreading it around."
"Figures." Syrus picked up his backpack and hopped off the porch of the Slifer Red dorm. "Anyway, it's not true. Jaden and I are just friends. He's my aniki. Y'know, my big brother. Anyway I'm really late to class, so I better get going. I'm probably missing information that'll be on the next test!"
"We're just doing a review today," Zane told him. Syrus' silver eyes flickered.
"How do you know?"
"Because Dr. Crowler told us yesterday."
Syrus once again seemed to droop, like a wilting flower. "Oh."
"You're pathetic."
Syrus brought his shoulders up to his ears, his cheeks turning a light pink. They were walking towards the school at a fast pace.
"Why do you call him aniki?" Zane asked when the high domed roofs of the school came into view. Syrus didn't hear him, though, so when they reached the courtyard Zane repeated his question.
Syrus suddenly became bubbly. "OH! It's because he's the big brother I never had!"
Both brothers stopped at the same second, like they were using the same biological metronome. Syrus gaped at Zane. Zane's expression remained unchanged.
"…Except for you," Syrus added awkwardly. Zane didn't say anything.
"…Well, you really aren't much of a brother you know," Syrus said quietly. He quickly shuffled inside the building.
Zane's expression still didn't change.
