I've never wrote a SGA fiction before, and I've only seen a few shows, but I'm going to catch up. I will appreciate criticism among all other reviews! This is a one shot, and slash, and I own nothing.

"I shouldn't love you." These were the words that woke Rodney McKay one un-special morning hours before his shift. He stirred in bed and looked across at his lover, who was sitting naked on the edge of the bed, staring helplessly at the wall.

"What?" he demanded, certain that he had misheard. Surely this couldn't be as he thought.

"I shouldn't love you" his lover repeated again. "It's wrong."

Rodney couldn't believe his ears. His climbed out of bed and sat beside him, gently wrapping his arms around his waist. For a moment they stiffened, then fell heavily into the embrace.

"You can't love me?" Rodney demanded. "Why not?"

"I said I shouldn't" his lover replied. "Not that I can't. I can, but I shouldn't. We work together, we aren't supposed to become personally involved."

Rodney laughed, knowing instantly that it was a mistake by the hurt look on his lover's face. "That's never mattered before" he told his partner, making his tone more serious. "Not even last night."

His lover half-smiled then, but sadness and worry still filled those beautiful brown eyes, and knew that this was far from over. His closed his eyes, looking back on the memory of how all this began.

FLASHBACK

They were on a mission, the sun hot, the ground dusty. His friend had then been working slightly away from him, a few metres into the cave he sat at the entrance of. He had fallen quiet, not talking as normal.

After a few minutes Rodney had become concerned. There hadn't been the sound of falling rock or screams, but instantly fear filled him. He stood up, entering the cave cautiously.

He called out his friend's name, got no response, and knew instantly that something was wrong.

"Are you hurt?" he called out, stepping into the cave. Sounds reached his ears sudden. Cloth ripping, the scrape of boots against rock, metal on metal. The last sound terrified him most. He hurried on, forgetting his own safety in his need to help.

His friend was lying on the floor, covered in scrapes and forming bruises, his shirt ripped open completely. Rodney rushed forward, helping his friend up. "What happened?" he demanded, but no answer came. Instead his friend gripped tightly to him, staring silently into his face with terrified eyes.

Rodney had done the most insane thing he could have at that moment. He kissed him, lips meeting lips in a moment of passionate madness, a kiss that lasted barely seconds yet seemed to shake the world to its very core, and changed Rodney's forever. He had kissed a man. He had kissed his friend.

And he refused to stop now. They'd met again. And again. And after again after that, until the meetings had become endless and led to this.

FLASHBACK ENDED

Rodney smiled as his lover pulled himself away and wandered away for a shower. It was only once the other man had gone that Rodney realised two things simultaneously: one, that he had never actually found out what happened in the cave; and two, that John Shepard had just admitted that he loved him.

"I love you too" he whispered to the empty room, and happily followed his lover. To the ends of the shaken earth.
