Chapter 1 – Of Flowers and Anger

Disclaimer: I do not own any of FF7 properties.

"Sir, would you like a flower?" The young lady asked as she held out a little white flower to passers-by. Who could bear to turn down an offer from someone with such beautiful emerald eyes that seemed to sparkle with every smile?

There she stood, in the heart of Midgar, selling flowers by the fountain in Sector One. Dressed in pink with a matching red jacket and a pair of brown worn-out garden boots, she stood out from the crowd of people.

Aeris sold flowers to pay for her daily expenses and also for her school fees, as she had taken up Wutainese recently. It was the trend nowadays for youngsters to study that language. Christmas was just around the corner, and her flowers sold out quickly as people bought them as gifts for their loved ones. By the end of the day, only one stalk remained. As the sky was painted a deep crimson by the setting sun, Aeris was desperately trying to sell the last flower lying in her basket.

Spotting a couple walking along the almost quiet street, Aeris waited for them to get close enough before speaking.

"Sir, would you like a flower?" She asked the man, briefly holding out the basket to him as he approached.

"Please sir, it's the last stalk, and it's so lonely out here bearing the cold with me." She ran after the man as he continued past her with no response. "I'm sure your pretty companion would love to have it," She continued.

The man stopped and turned around to face Aeris, causing her to abruptly stop in front of him. Taking the remaining flower from her basket, he stared at it for a long time as if deep in thought. Slowly, he changed his focus from the flower to the lady in front of him, tilting his head ever so slightly to meet her gaze. Aeris blushed slightly as their eyes met. Then, to the surprise and shock of both of girls, he tucked the flower neatly in Aeris' hair, just beside her ear. His companion gasped. With jealousy written all over her face, she stared daggers at Aeris before turning her back to her and folding her arms in front of her chest. The man threw Aeris a last glance before continuing on his way, not at all disturbed by his companion who was angrily trudging in tow. With a smooth effortless motion, he tossed a gil over his shoulder, landing it nicely in her basket.

The stunned flower girl stared blankly at his back. His long silver hair seemed to flow behind him rhythmically as he moved through the crowd. Her eyes followed him until he disappeared into the night. Thoughtfully, she raised her hand to touch the flower which he had placed so gently in her hair. Replaying the scene in her head, Aeris could feel her cheeks burning even in the chilly night air. Brushing her thoughts aside, she quickly made her way home.

Ok, this is my FIRST attempt at this. Repost. I'm also trying hard to make all characters in the story unique. So, please be kind to me.

This will be an Aeris/Sephiroth fiction, out of characters. And I'd decided to change some of the positions in the seven sectors. Do not follow the game story at all as it was based on a personal experience. All current or future chapters will have the possibility of being re-edited.

Whistle & Dreams of a forgotten child: THANK YOU! Read your reviews not once but twice. Do agree that the grammar is poor. As advised, I had changed the summary to readable English.

Keigo: hehe, xie xie read your reviews twice too. Thank you for agreeing to be my editor though you are very busy.

I'm forming the storyline as I go along. So the story will seem weird, like it's going nowhere.

Anyway, I'll try to write better to spare you all from the poor grammar. :P
