Title: I don't know why
Pairing: Skate, mild Jate
Disclaimer: I don't own Lost. If I did, Kate and Sawyer would be together already! And Vertical Horizon owns the lyrics to everything you want. I thought this song fit "what kate did" pretty well
Somewhere there's speaking
It's already coming in
Oh and it's rising at the back of your mind
You never could get it
Unless you were fed it
Now you're here and you don't know why
She was in the middle of the forest, running again. She didn't really know why, but her thoughts were overflowing in her head. Battling off intense feelings for Sawyer that scared her so badly, Wayne "coming back", and black horses. She heard footsteps behind her, following her.
But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places where you used to learn
You howl and listen
Listen and wait for the
Echoes of angels who won't return
She sat down on the log, more worn out than she had been in a while. Almost dreading what was coming, she turned around, knowing exactly who he was. Jack peered through the trees, looking very accusing. He started talking, she started to run again, screaming back, on the verge of tears.
He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
And he means nothing to you
And you don't know why
He grabbed her, and she fought for a second before melting. He calmed her down, and she looked into his eyes. He faltered, and she felt his heart rate rocket. Hers stayed steady, and she kissed him. She wanted to be in love with him, hell, she needed to love him. But she didn't. He was the exact opposite of her, and the stereotypical perfect husband. She kept kissing him, hoping the feeling that this was wrong would be washed away.
You're waiting for someone
To put you together
You're waiting for someone to push you away
There's always another wound to discover
There's always something more you wish he'd say
She broke the kiss, realizing that she did love him, she just wasn't in love with him. He would always be her protector, but never her lover. She remembered who she wanted, and how much he hurt. She took one last look at Jack's confused face and began running again.
But you'll just sit tight
And watch it unwind
It's only what you're asking for
And you'll be just fine
With all of your time
It's only what you're waiting for
This time, though, she wasn't running away from it, she was running to him. She knew exactly where she was going this time. She opened the door to the hatch, hoping he'd be awake, hoping he'd be himself this time.
Out of the island
Into the highway
Past the places where you might have turned
You never did notice
But you still hide away
The anger of angels who won't return
She started watching him again, taking the job from Sun, a little hesitant at first. She started crying, talking to Wayne through him. She finished venting, even admitting feelings for him outloud. He opened his eyes and smiled, teasing her lightly and asking who Wayne was. This brought on a fresh onslaught of tears, happy that he was back, happy that he was alive. She brough him outside, and started teasing him until a look of amazement crossed his face. She turned around and saw the black horse. Kate got up to go touch it, to say goodbye to the man she killed just one more time. Then she came back and looked at him, Sawyer, the man she loves.
