She finds him standing in the kitchen, his hands completely immersed by the hot water in the sink, dishes waiting to be dried on the counter beside him.

He doesn't notice her. And she doesn't say anything. Music comes softly from the radio in the corner, a song that she recognizes. And as she does, her keys slip from her fingers and fall to the ground.

The crash alerts him to someone's presence; he turns, and when he sees her, his eyes light up, but only briefly. He knows why she's come. He's taken too long and now she's there to make him face their reality.

The song changes suddenly as both of them look at each other. Both recognize the tune, but neither of them admit it, because it is a reminder of what they used to be.

Even so, he takes his hands out of the water, and dries them on a nearby dish towel. And then he reaches out to her, tentatively, unsure of what she'll do. But she accepts, and he draws her against him.

And for the first time in a long time, they dance.

A/N: I don't know how many times I have to say this, but I will if it keeps the lawyers away: LOSVU is not mine. Never has been and never will be.
