He can't sleep. So he watches her, listening to the sound of her slow, steady breathing. The hour is late, and he doesn't want to wake her…doesn't want to risk starting another fight. The outside world has left him drained again. All he wants is to fall asleep beside her.
But he can't. That oblivious remains elusive, and he is left to stare at her in silence, wishing that she was awake, so he could say something to her.
He wonders then if she still knows how much he loves her. The thought that maybe she doesn't scares him. And suddenly, he can feel his eyes starting to close. But before he gives in completely, he leans over her, kisses her forehead, and murmurs three words…three words she doesn't hear.
"I love you."
