Chapter 8

Chloe stirred. She moved onto her back, eyes still closed. "Mmmmm!" she moaned after taking a deep breath. Chloe raised her arms over her head and stretched, arching her back causing her shirt to ride up over her belly button. Clark gulped. He couldn't take his eyes off of her. His whole body was reacting to the sensuality of her stretch. Clark decided he needed to wake her up NOW. "Chloe," he said a little louder than before. Chloe's arms were still over her head. Clark wasn't sure where to put his hands to try and wake her up. Deciding to take the safest route, he placed one hand on the back of the couch and the other on the edge beside her head and leaned in closer to her ear. "Chlllooooeee, waaakkkeee uuuupppp!" Eyelashes fluttered for a moment, then settled back down. Another satisfied moan escaped her lips. Clark desperate to wake her up, "Chloe! You have to wake up!"

Chloe's eyes opened slowly to find Clark just inches away. Still in the remnants of her dream, she smiled seductively and looped her arms around Clark's neck. Without a word, she opened her mouth over his. Clark relaxed into the kiss. Chloe moaned again. She had to stop the moaning! Clark's body was reacting in such a way that is was beginning to get embarrassing! This called for drastic measures! Clark pulled away from kissing Chloe and look directly into her eyes. Chloe went from smiling to frowning as she woke up.

"Clark!" Chloe's eyes widened as she realized where she was. "What's going on?" Her expression was a little disoriented.

Clark smiled wide and said, "That must have been some dream!"

Chloe turned pink. Placing her hands on his chest she delicately pushed Clark away so that she could sit up. She swung her legs to the floor slipping her feet into her shoes. Chloe stood up and started to walk toward her desk completely ignoring Clark's comment about her dream. She wasn't going to give him any ammunition to tease her with. This was awkward. How were they going to be able to talk about last night after this? Well, she had to start somewhere. "Clark…" Chloe turned around from her desk only to see Clark rising from his chair and walking toward her. "Clark, what are you doing?"

Clark could tell that Chloe was very agitated. He decided that he better not make any sudden moves. He walked slowly over to her desk and took a seat on the corner. "Just thought I would get more comfortable."

"Oh…okay…" Chloe didn't look convinced. Chloe narrowed her eyes looking at Clark suspiciously. "Clark Kent, are you up to something?"

Clark just shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. "No."

Chloe turned away from Clark and began pacing the room. "Clark, we really need to talk about last night. I don't know what came over me, but I didn't mean to start what happened. Things just got out of control. I really think that we should forget that it ever happened and just go back to being friends." Chloe had not stopped pacing the whole time she was talking and she wouldn't even look at Clark. She kept her eyes to the floor and using her hands to convey her message.

Clark's heart sank. She wanted to be friends. He guessed that him being an alien had something to do with this. He couldn't blame her. Clark dropped his head and pulled his hand over his face. He had to ask her if that was the reason. He had to know. "Chloe, is it because I'm not human?"

Chloe's head came up to star at Clark with shock on her face. "Clark, how could you ever think that that would make a difference." She moved forward to place her hands on either side of Clark's face and looked him straight in the eyes. "I don't feel differently about you because of what you told me. I am loving that you have shared with me that part of you."

Clark wrapped his hands around her waist and pulled her closer. "Then why do you not want to pursue a more romantic relationship? I thought that is what you have wanted all this time. Now that I am willing, why are you turning me down?"

Chloe dropped her hands from Clark's face. "Clark, twenty four hours ago, you were Lana Lusting when you didn't even know who she was. I don't want to be pushed to the wayside if you and Lana decide to try and make a go of your relationship again. If that happens, I'm not sure that I could go back to being your friend." Chloe's voice broke. "It would hurt far too much." Tears glistened in Chloe's eyes. Chloe tried to walk away from Clark, but he wouldn't let go of her waist. Instead he pulled her into his embrace hugging her tight. She rested her head on his shoulder and relaxed into his arms.

Clark didn't say a word. He just held her.
