A week after the letters had been sent, a four sheets of parchment appeared in different parts of the house. Sirius found one on his bed. Remus found another by his job applications. Harry found his on top of his trunk. Severus found one for himself on the kitchen table, and Peter found his in the folds of his Death Eater robes...

Dear Padfoot,

I don't know how reassuring this is (is it just creepy?) but yes, Lily and I are watching over you, Harry, and Remus. How could we not? You are, after all, our three favorite people in the entire world. No joke.

Mate, we miss you too. Every day, Lily will say to me, "So, Sirius up here with us yet?" I guess it's a joke, but sometimes I wish it were true. That sounds horrible, wishing death on your best mate, but when you're dead too, it's pretty logical, actually. And now Lily's talking about how I'm starting to sound logical all the time. I guess that's the price to pay when you die.

Why did I die? It wasn't something I had much control over. I wanted to protect my family. Jolly good job I did, eh? At least Harry's alive, the sweet kid.

As for Peter, well, apparently he is capable of emotions. He sent me a letter too. It really broke my heart. We weren't the best friends to him. Don't get me wrong, we were pleasant... thought I guess we excluded him a lot. He was really hurt by that, and understandably so.

When you ran away from your parents, mate, you absolutely refused to cry over them. But I could see it; your eyes were shiny. Like you had tears there, but wouldn't let them fall, even though Mum said it was okay to cry. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

Ah, when Lily, lovely Lily, finally said yes to me... that, my dear friend, was the greatest day of my life. Aside from the day we were engaged, my wedding day, and the day Harry was born, I mean. McGonagall was pissed, eh? I believe these were her exact words... "POTTER! How the HELL did you manage to break the bed!" Of course, you decided to tell her I'd been jumping on it. Thanks.

I didn't even know you came to the house after the attack. I guess I wasn't up in heaven or wherever this place is yet. You shouldn't have gone, mate, I wouldn't want you to see my body. That must have been beyond horrible.

Padfoot, I know this is short, but it's really all I can say. Things are... how do you say it... interesting up here? Everyone that died in the war (and that fought for the Light) is up here, and even a few Death Eaters. Your brother, Regulus, is up here too. He's sitting across the table from me, chatting with Edgar Bones and Lily. Many other deceased Order members are here as well. We're actually having a meeting to discuss what's going on in your world and to see if we can do anything to help you out.

Mate, I gotta go. The meeting's going to start soon, and I don't have anything else to say without having a nervous breakdown. I love you like I love my family, Sirius, and never forget that.

Marauder Forever,

Prongs, a.k.a. James Christopher Potter
